Poll question: Poll: When did the religious right reach its zenith?
I've been seeing some interesting discussions of the religious right and its influence on politics and this country. My sense, too, is that whether or not the religious right is declining, it at least is no longer in the ascendancy.

When do you think the high point of the religious right in this century was? The point after which it began to decline?

1. Last Friday when they got Palin on the ballot
sure, W is a born again but had some cred (family name, gov of a decent sized state)

The only reason she is on the ticket is the down syndrome child.

The religiously insane have gone ape shit over this nomination for just that reason.

2. That is very specific :)
I should have added that I think its zenith is this year, but I'm not sure if that is now or later in the year. However, I think a case can be made for its peak being in 2004, when they mobilized for the election.

Rather than Tom Delay and the rest of the crazy fundies who thought they could pass some legislation and force God to let her live.

They were cut loose from that point on!

5. I voted for 2000
I think it has been downhill since they got W elected. I think too many people gave them the credit for that "win" over Gore.

After that the Cheney's and Rumsfeld's of the world have been able to ignore them.
