Extra Bonus Quote of the Day
"This election is not about issues. This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

-- McCain campaign manager Rick Davis, quoted by the Washington Post.

2. Unfortunately he is right
The election should be about issues. But it has become an advertising campaign. And that means it has reduced the process down to emotional manipulation. Making people feel better about one candidate and uneasy about the other. People don't vote based on reason they vote based on their gut feeling. Or at least a majority do.

5. yep that's the republician way of voting.
if they don't like the way you look, you're not getting their vote. doesn't matter if your pulling them out of a burning house.

7. recommend, he forgot he wasn't in a strategy room.
there are two truths to these people:

1. The truth they decide to display to the country

2. The truth that they use in the backrooms to decide what the truth will be that they display to the country

this idiot forgot where he was for a second and truth number 2 came out.

13. Gramps and the Secessionist! We'll pitch it to ABC !
They'll pick it up for midseason, with Wilford Brimley and Reeba McIntyre in the title roles. I smell a hit! But if we wait until pilot season, we can forget Reeba and Wil and get the original cast...the buzz is they will be very available as of early November.

12. sadly, he's 100% correct. that's the way the game is played
"issues" are only important to the extent that they play into that "composite view".

what he DOESN'T say is that a savvy candidate and party can push "issues" in general and certain issues in particular front and center so that they're more likely to play a big role in shaping that "composite view".

those who actually vote issues have made their minds up a long time ago.

those who remain vote on image. even if they THINK they're voting on an "issue" (think gay marriage or flag-burning), they're actually voting on image.

16. The last thing the GOP wants
is for it to be about the issues, hence the Palin circus.
