AP covering for Palin with AIP
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080902/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_politics;_ylt=Aom_xv11Zu5qHP9LIgOVBjOs0NUE

Look at they describe the party:

"ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, twice registered as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a fierce states' rights group that wants to turn all federal lands in Alaska back to the state. Sarah Palin herself was never a member of the party, according to state officials."

Yup yup yup. It was just a little states rights group. Not an organization dedicated to breaking away from the USA

In fact they title the story:
"Palin's husband was member of third party"

Just a third party. that's all. As harmless as voting for Ross Perot.

1. "turn all federal lands in Alaska back to the state"

I'd say that's pretty much secession. I don't know why they think there's nothing wrong with that "little" confession. Pretty damning imo.

edit:typo

too much of our state. As of the year 2000 65% of the state was federally-controlled land, 24% was state land, and only 11 percent was privately owned (10% owned by Alaska Native Corporations and 1 percent owned by everyone else). http://nrm.salrm.uaf.edu/~stodd/AlaskaPlanningDirectory/landOwnership.html

I doubt that many other states in the union are divvied up this way. I'm not supporting the AIP, of course, but they're not too far out of line with the viewpoints of a lot of Alaskans on the federally owned land thing.

12. Of course...

It's just not going to play out well in the lower 48 at all. My sister, who's quite liberal actually likes a lot of things Palin has done as governor, but doesn't think that makes her ready to be VP or P.

8. WTF
It's an anti American group who wants Alaska to be it's own country. Also Caribou Barbie was a member of the Alaskan Independent party as well as her husband.
When did the AP become so Right wing?
this is Bullshit!

9. in the coverage I have seen
there almost seems to be a force effort to look "extra casual" when mentioning this...as if to say "Uh...move along people. Nothing to see. It may sound super sketchy, but just take it from the 'casual' tone in our voices that this is nothing unusual at all. yup yup."
