Bristol Palin: feminist Heroine. (Welcome to the 21st century)
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 05:28 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Finally, a genuinely pro-choice gesture from someone in the Palin clan. The fight for women to control their own reproduction is an ancient struggle and didn't begin with contraception and abortion. It began with criminalizing rape and ending arranged marriages. (Didn't we just sentence that Mormon fellow to a zillion years in jail for telling teenage girls who to marry?) Sad that in 21st century America I can laud a young woman as a feminist hero, tongue only slightly in cheek, for the novel self-assertion of the right to choose her own husband (or no husband), but that's where we are at.
Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to quietly have her daughter Bristol get married before news of her pregnancy leaked out, the NATIONAL ENQUIRER is reporting exclusively in its new issue.

Palin planned for the wedding to take place right after the Republican National Convention and then she was going to announce the pregnancy.

But Bristol, 17, refused to go along with the plan and that sparked a mother-daughter showdown over the failed cover-up.

8. Good for Bristol!
I'm glad she's got spunk and backbone.

Interesting that it was the NE informing Palin that they were going to break the story that precipitated the announcement. I guess it wasn't an an attempt to quash the mean blog stories that was the impetus.

9. You go, girl. Don't marry that Neanderthal...
no matter how much Momma screams and shouts.

Come to think of it, there is something vaguely Fay Dunaway-as-Joan Crawford about Sarah Palin.

12. Actually, I think it involves money--I think Levi Johnston's family is going
to receive millions. Someone keep an eye on this family's standard of living, it's about to change in a big way.

13. Don't know how much stock I put in that paper..... but
but as someone who is also 5 moths pregnant, I give her well wishes. Being pregnant is a handful of emotions and discomfort (and I am 31, married and planned... and still a slight mess). This has to be incredibly tough for her.

:nuke:

It wouldn't be terribly hard to guess that having your 17-year-old daughter turn up pregnant would cause some kind of stir within a family.

22. Let's examine this detail.
No source is given as to whom told NE that Bristol refused to marry.
I just don't buy this. Not very convincing when it's not sourced in any way.

23. I have never said a bad word about any kids. I was waiting for something good to say.
This is one of the most positive things I have ever posted about anyone of any age.

I have nothing bad to say about Bristol Palin. I do not consider her a "fallen woman." I don't care whether she has brought shame upon her house or any of that crap.

I have a general idea how difficult it might be to say NO to a wedding forced by a political party and applaud her for having enough sense of self to resist.

That's what choice is about... choosing.

The villain of the piece is Sarah Palin.

26. If this happened to Obama, it would make me wanna vote for him more
i know this is strange, but if Obama picked a mildly attractive 44 year old woman as his VP pick, and this hypothetical woman had a hot pregnant 17 year old daughter, the news would make me wanna vote for Obama *MORE* (not less)

so i can only assume that this news is having the same effect on republicans. they now want to vote for Mccain *more* (not less)

strange. i dont know why i feel this way, all i know is that i feel this way

why do i feel this way? does this make me a bad person? i dont know...

all i know is that hypothetically, if this had happened to Obama instead of Mccain i can honestly say it wouldnt make me less happy to vote for Obama but it would make me want to vote for Obama even more...

WHY? WHY? WHY? i cant come up with a reason i think like this lol

im a male BTW

28. I hear you. Fertility symbols are profound.
People can dress it up, but we're still not so different from ancient Crete or mesoamerica.

Many people who were excited by JFK because there would be a baby in the white house were essentially saying it augured well for a bountiful harvest, though probably not thinking that consciously.
