Why Gubernatorial "executive" experience obviously DOESN'T matter right now... |
|
Neither party nominated a Governor. Romney, Huckabee, and Richardson...all governors, didn't come close to securing the nomination. Emperically, this talking point is a non-starter this year.
Furthermore, I think we need to chide the frame of "experience" altogether and talk more about "qualifications". Truth be told George W. Bush has more "experience" than anyone else in the country other than Bill Clinton and for all that "experience" we have gotten nothing except one management disaster after another because Bush's qualifications to be President, mainly starting with intellect, is seriously lacking.
Qualifications, people.

Either way, though, the experience issue plays into, and will continue to play into, our hands. Before, the Dem ticket was the only one with an experience issue, and it was perhaps their most potent weapon. Now, both tickets have experience issues and they have taken away their most potent weapon. Serious doubts about their ticket now exist on this front, especially since McCain is the oldest person to ever run for president.
The undercurrent of all of the experience back and forth going on now is not whether Obama is experienced enough... people have made up their mind on that. It's whether Palin is. That is a very open question.
