Palin Slashed Special Needs Education by 62%
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 07:48 PM by Contrary1
Cross posting from GD, because this one really needs to get out there.

Found this gem on an Alaskan blog. Irony, much?

"For those of you who seem so enamored with Gov. Sarah Palin, it might be worth noting that she oversees the budget for the Department of Education and Early Development Special Schools in Alaska.
These funds provide supplementary educational services to students with severe disabling conditions and the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy. The resident school where the child would normally be placed does not have the resources to provide an adequate educational program. Without the supplementary services the child’s needs would not be met by the local school district in most cases.

The following programs are included within this component:
Special Education Service Agency (SESA)

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was $8,265,300.

http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/07_OMB/budget/EED/comp2735.pdf

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/08_OMB/budget/EED/comp2735.pdf

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/09_omb/budget/EED/comp2735.pdf

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of 5,109,300 , or 62%."

14. I hope so. That kid will need plenty of help.
It doesn't sound like Dad's the one for full time duties, and Mom's job is more than full time and often out of town.

My cousin has an autistic son. She used to travel a lot of business, and her husband had a less intense job. She got a nice buyout package after a takeover, and now she's at home while he concentrates on his career. Their son is very high functioning--they've done really well with him, but if they'd both been gone on business all the time, there's no way that the kid would be in high-school today, doing well in Math and History in the mainstream and taking some special classes.

6. Have to wonder if she's rethought that.
Introspection doesn't seem to be often found among her ilk, so I suspect not (and she probably still believes in 'abstinence only' sex education, too).

I think someone is going to get a pink slip over this one.

Karma? maybe. Douchebaggery? Yes.

11. Governor Matt Blunt (also known as Baby Blunt) tried this in Missouri.
The parents aroused up and bit him in the ass. Along with trying to eliminate First Steps (services for disabled children to the age of 3 years) a series of abusing emails, this ass-hat decided not to run again. Parents of disabled children are not a group to mess with. The parents in Alaska need to take a lesson from Missouri and apply it Sarah Barracuda when she returns to Alaska.
