Fiorina is an awful speaker |

Grin, grin, robot swivel, grin.
And the crowd sound like they're at a drunken rodeo.

7. Actually, the opposite |
|
she was quite a good CEO. Remember Lucent? And HP cut her loose because she and the Hewlett kid didn't agree on much anymore (Although it was her plan that ultimately made HP what it is today).
Just not sure why she's at this thing :-(

9. I respect your opinion, but |
|
I'm not sure of that. As a long-time holder of T and LU, I recall the Carly days differently. She was instrumental in the spin-off of LU, but I don't recall her leading that company ever. That's probably a backhand endorsement since both of us know the rest of that story. As for H/P, her heavy-handedness was counter to the culture of the company. She had to go. If indeed her strategy is playing out for them, fine - that's what they overpaid her for in the first place. To me, effective CEO's have longer terms than one trip up or down the slope. They affect change and they lead. I never saw that from her. Just a different opinion, Peace

17. Actually, I don't disagree with you |
|
on most points, in that you're right, she didn't actually lead LU. I was pointing out her role in architecting that move which I always saw as brilliant.
And as to HP's culture, I also agree with you in that she was rather contrary to it, but the only place we really disagree is in that I think that is what saved HP in the end. HP is no Apple and never will be, and I think she saw that. I always saw her dismissal as more personal (vis a vis little Hewlett) than professional, and the stock did jump, but that often follows such a move, especially when analysts determined that HP was maintaining the course she laid out. I think that the more the conflict between them became public, the more risk there was to the stock value, and that had to play a part in the decision.
Thanks for a nice reasoned response, it seems you do your homework!
Peace back at ya
But I still don't care much for her activities after HP, and I'd bet we agree there!

It was the IPO that was so impressive. I was separating that from future behavior.

8. She was also an awful CEO of HP |
|
soon after her push to merge with Compaq, her actions literally slashed in half the company's value, cause thousands to lose their jobs. For this, the company gave her $20 million in severance pay.
