If you want to criticize the way he was shuffled around, shown little to no affection by anyone and used totally as a "prop" tonight, go for it. I found it appalling.
But don't pick on the baby. He's four months old. He has Down Syndrome. He was in a situation that, in my opinion, no four month old should have been. It was noisy, hot, bright and crowded. I am very sorry and saddened that he has such a ruthless and uncaring mother who would put him in that situation.

Another said he was "plastic"
another: Get him a crib
Several: does he ever move? Why is he always sleeping?

PROP: Trig is being used as one. The attack is on those using him. PLASTIC: He's paraded around, like a toy, a symbol. The attack is on those parading. GET HIM A CRIB: I saw this on private email lists, this career event is more important to some people than Trig is. Again, the attack is on the abuse of a child to forward a career. MOVE/SLEEPING: I think these are honest questions from folks who don't know much about how different kids have different needs. Those people need education, not shaming.

NO baby, special needs or not, at four months old has any business in a place like that. She used him for the "I have a special needs baby and it makes me a wonderful person" prop, and it's borderline abuse. That baby belonged in a bathtub and a quiet bed, and shame on her for using him that way.

would have been subjected to that kind of event at that age.
She is a fucking hypocrite who should have that child taken away from her care, if she continues to abuse it like this. This is a very young life we are talking about here - and with Down's Syndrome, all the noise, and lights and commotion going on? Indeed it was borderline child abuse, and I don't give a shit what anyone about thinks about my opinion.
Any more than I give a shit about their opinion if they are asking me to lay off on that aspect. The only thing worse than someone doing that to a very young special needs baby is anyone who can't find the balls to call the parents out on that.

54. Use it as learning points. |
|
A lot of folks honestly have no idea why children with various needs behave in the ways they do.
"Why is he unresponsive?" "It could be because he's totally overloaded with stimuli, or was medicated, or was tired."
Talking about these issues is a good thing, as it rips the stigma off people behaving differently because they're, well, different.
Taking it a level further, while there is a possible underlying (rather ugly) insinuation that the child was sedated for "image" purposes, it's also possible that Trig has seizure complications, and he is regularly sedated for his own health and safety.

A person would have to be suffocatingly obnoxious to question the birth of that kid. Icon that it is. I think Sarah has proven herself in that regard.
I don't think her decision gives her the right to force her decision on others. These decisions belong ultimately to the woman herself, not by proxy. That's the ultimate power of women.
