it's one thing to show off your kids as just part of your family and part of who you are.

it's completely different to showcase them, make the kid's pregnancy and the status of their relationship take center stage in photo ops, press releases and so forth. further, to do this to make things seem different than they really were is a rotten way to treat these kids (okay, he's a borderline kid). i think they need their space to decide their futures, without having Sarah's career hinge on every move they make from now on.

it's just wrong to me.

i would have had a hell of a lot more respect for them had they simply said, "this is a private family matter and we would appreciate privacy for our children. if it is about me, i can understand the intrusion, i signed up for public life, my children did not. please give them their space."

but that wouldn't have been good enough for the evangelicals.
