What has the Republican Party Degenerated Into?
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 03:07 AM by JCMach1
I mean that seriously!

Though I always hated them, there always seemed to be a few people in the opposition who had class, or style, or (at least gravitas).

Thinking about convention past, it is a very seed change in what there once was. It reminded me of seeing video of the Conservative Party conference in Britain after Major had been shot down by Blair.

The Republicans have reached an ideological dead-end. What is left are dead-enders... the left-over tools of Bush.

Almost makes me feel nostalgic for the old Republican party... ALMOST

4. At one time they were
Lincoln was one but no way would he recognize this party, he wouldn't even belong to it.

What they have come to is even something far different from Raygun (as horrid as he was), there was a post here in DU just today (wed) that said Nancy is for Obama, so are the Nixons. This repug party is even too much for any of them! :wow:

2. Yeah, they're dying as a party
Their demographic base is shrinking. They've totally betrayed their supposed advantage on fiscal discipline. They're going to lose their national security cred for good once Obama is in power and leads us responsibly.

All they will have left are moral wedge issues: abortion and (anti)-gay rights. They will be a permanent minority party.

Even if, God forbid, Obama loses, this process will continue.

The theocrats will run out the Corporate fascists and the neocons
There ain't enough room in that circus tent for conflicting interests.

The money changers and war mongers will have to get in line or get out.

10. The Robber Barons Get Along Just Fine With the Theocrats
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 03:52 AM by AndyTiedye
Of course, the robber barons don't want to live under a theocracy, they want to live above it, like the sheikhs of Saudi Arabia.
The fundies are OK with that, just as they are OK with all of Palin's transgressions and those of her family.

Laws, even religious laws, are for little people.

And best of all, the people never rebel against a theocracy, no matter how repressive it becomes.
I cannot think of a single example in all of recorded history.

3. I don't think I've ever seen a major political party so substantively bankrupt
It scares the living daylights out of me that we aren't crushing them by even more.

6. It's not the freakin' olympics... couldn't someone come up with something a little more creative
It reminds me of the Springer show. Literally, they should have had Jerry Emcee the thing.

Oh, but wait a minute... he's one of ours :)

So, at least he would have the good sense to stay away from that Troll Market... unlike a certain Senator from CT.

8. They've have 'degenerated' into the ruling class who believe they rule by divine right.

Why do you think Bush abolished habeas corpus.
It wasn't just to open a torture camp in GITMO.

He effectively overturned the Magna Carta, the
first document in history that declare kings to
be accountable to the people.

Mc Cain/Palin are continuing in that tradition.
You ordinary folk are of no consequence to them.
The poor and the weak are mere chattels to be
disposed of as the 'better' class decides.

9. The Republican Party Has Degenerated into
the Church of Scientology, wearing a green Las Vegas-type dealers Eye Shade , while sitting in a mens room stall with a wide stance and tapping his toes while flag-draped coffins roll past and the choir sings, "Money.. that's what I want.. yeah ya.. that's what I want".
