To be a Republican you have to distance yourself from the unpopular policies, not to mention the corruption and criminality, of the last eight years. You have to say you're a "maverick" and promise real change but, of course, be ready to not deliver on that promise in such a way that nobody really notices. Hopefully you'll get as much help from the media as the last Republican administration to accomplish that.

I can't believe these fools had the gaul to bring up our safety and Osama bin Laden in the course of this convention. Upon whose watch did 9/11 occur? Do we have bin Laden? And whose fault is that, exactly? How's that 'war on terror going?' To be a Republican, you have to believe that torture, rendition, the evisceration of our civil liberties -- all that STILL hasn't made us safer but, don't worry, if we just keep on doing it, IT WILL! And one has to strenuously avoid such questions as why does the FBI not have any hard evidence tying bin Laden to the attacks of 9/11? "He (bin Laden) has not been formally indicted and charged in connection with 9/11 because the FBI has no hard evidence connected Bin Laden to 9/11.” -- http://www.teamliberty.net/id267.html">Rex Tomb, Chief of Investigative Publicity for the FBI, June 2006.

Of course Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 either -- hundreds of billions of dollars latter (mostly in the bank accounts of Bush/Cheney cronies), almost 4,000 dead soldiers -- many of them from small towns just like Wasilla -- and god only knows how many Iraqis -- and exactly how safer are we? How DARE they play the "terrorist threat" and the "Democrats are soft on terrorism" meme?

Republicans have to pretend that NONE of this is real or that it matters or means anything to anybody. Like I said: DELUSIONAL. They have to believe that the American people are as stupid and delusional as they are. That we won't notice (again) if the press plays it up so that it looks like a close election and when the votes are finally tallied VOILA, despite all the exit polls, despite all the outspoken support for Obama, and despite the incredible lack of integrity or intelligence or focus of the Republican campaign, once again, we lost.

It looks to me like these fools either have no intention of winning or they believe they've already bagged it and, therefore, it doesn't matter who they run or what they say. And, indeed, why shouldn't they believe that? Looking at what the current Republican administration has gotten away with -- why shouldn't they believe it?

Edit for link and corrected spelling of Wasilla
