Okay, honestly, GOP, you’ve got to stop – you’re killin’ me!

The joke always starts the same: “So, Sarah Palin walks into the VP slot and …”

But in the grand tradition of the knock-knock joke, the punchlines are varied and endless – and the Republican spokes-hairdos and punditidiots just keep coming up with new ones.

Well, at this point, everyone already has their favorite, and given the wealth of choices, it’s hard to pick just one – almost as hard as P.O.W. McSame picking a viable running mate.

“She’s the governor of our largest state.” Well, that’s a sure-fire winner for the Republicans. You see, the thing is that Alaska doesn’t have a lot of people, and Republicans don’t care much about people, so you can understand their obsession with square miles rather than population. Fewer people means lower unemployment numbers, lower below-poverty-line numbers, lower teen-age pregnancy numbers – and don’t go ruining the joke by pullin’ that per capita crap.

“She has foreign policy experience because she’s lived between two foreign countries.” And while she hasn’t mastered Russian yet, I understand she does speak fluent Canadian as a result of the proximity.

“Palin is a world traveler.” And don’t we all know it! Weren’t the newspapers full of stories about how she accomplished world peace during her stop-over in Ireland? Oh, sure, she wasn’t there a lengthy period of time – but how long does it take to buy one of those plastic Miss Congeniality trophies at the gift shop anyway?

“She’s fully vetted.” Kinda like my cat, who sees the vet on a regular basis. The last visit lasted twenty minutes, and cost two hundred bucks. If the good doctor had been interviewing him for the VP job instead of giving him a flea treatment, my bill would have been half of what it was.

“She’s a hockey mom!” With the intellect of a hockey puck. If the country really needed a self-serving, vengeful, clueless-but-arrogant idiot who is actually dumb enough to think they’re capable of running a country, she’d be perfect!

“Her meteoric rise in politics rivals that of Obama’s.” Well, okay, if you leave out all of that stuff about running a flawless campaign, winning millions of votes in the primaries, drawing crowds of 200,000 people, garnering the respect of world leaders – yadda, yadda, yadda – you can hardly tell them apart!

“She’s a fine Christian role model.” I know, I know – and I hear the National Enquirer will be doing a lengthy series on just how fine a Christian she’s been.

“She’s knowledgeable enough to take on the vice presidency.” And I’m sure that as soon as someone answers her query as to “what a vice president actually does”, she’ll be on her way!

“She’s tough and knows how to get things done.” Just ask her brother-in-law, and the guy who refused to fire him – they’ll tell you.

Ah, yes, the laughter inspired by Goodie Palin is the best entertainment the GOP has offered in a long time, and doesn’t show any signs of tapering off anytime soon.

“How many Sarah Palins does it take to screw-in a lightbulb?” She doesn’t know – but if that’s part of what a vice president does, she’s sure she can do it.”

“Knock, knock, who’s there?” Sarah Palin. “Sarah Palin who?” Well, there’s a question no one will be able answer within the next few months, except to say, “No, don’t tell me – gimme a sec, I’m sure I can come up with it – sounds so familiar, but …”

“Why did the chicken cross the road?” To vote for Obama/Biden - because the alternative was just too damned laughable to be taken seriously.”

I've been less charitable, truth be told.

I think McCain should have picked your cat's vet or even your cat before he picked Palin, but I wasn't consulted for my input.

“Why did the chicken cross the road?” To vote for Obama/Biden - because the alternative was just too damned laughable to be taken seriously.”

Let's not forget, republicans usually don't make sense in their decisions, that's how we got 8 years of Bush. Palin panders to all of the GOP's inner hate and Rush Limbaugh talking points. Many voters don't think with their intellect, they think with their emotions. Don't be fooled, Obama/Biden are going to have to work for very hard to win this election.

86. I was horrified today
First day of classes at an institution of HIGHER EDUCATION. I overheard two faculty members talking about Palin's speech. One said that he thought she could be trouble for Democrats. I told him about her hypocrisy, which he didn't know about. He didn't know about how much she left her small town in debt, either. He was buying the whole story line. He said he thought the republicans would win again this year and I said sure they will, but not because of Sara Palin--because they control about 80 per cent of the voting machines which are programmed to change the votes to republican.

He didn't even know about this! Acted shocked!!

The other person was more mild in her praise of Palin but still--educated people? They should know better but they don't.

This is why we need the press to expose Palin more. If they do that I think these people would change their minds.

an anchor position at Pox Newz. Maybe she's angling for a job on an oil rig. Grand Kleigle Rove said she was the mayor of Alaska's second largest city. The sad part is a large number of people believe this crap.
I have a standing joke when ever her name is mentioned: "I fucked 'er," borrowed from Andrew Dice Clay.
My guess is she's McCane's last chance at getting wood.

20. Palin my be an idiot and a crazy choice, however...
Based on what's been uncovered so far, especially if you look at the post kpete did a day or two ago, she's called barracuda for a reason. Brutally ambitious.

She can speak from a teleprompter without hesitation. She looks good on TV. Seems to be willing to say whatever the speech writer puts there.

She can talk "religious right speak" without sounding like she's faking.

She presents the hard-core ultra conservative that the repugs think they want.

It's an image that will work in some parts of the country. I would expect that after McCain loses this race, because after all is said and done, its about him not her, she will continue to be on the national stage for years to come. I doubt she will give up the spotlight easily.

More than anything else, she's given the conservative base of the repug party a reason to get excited about the race. One of the biggest problems facing McCain, from a repug perspective, has been general apathy.

There needs to be an all-out assault on her record. Her record provides plenty of fodder. She was for the Bridge before she was against it. She happily took millions and millions in federal funds towards the Bridge, against her claim of "Thanks, but no thanks". Trooper-gate. Wasilla's financial change from before her tenure to after.

Get a few ads out in the next week or two, let Biden slaughter her in the debate, and then move on as though she no longer matters.

25. The McCain campaign WANTS us to attack Palin
The more we attack her and question her qualifications, the more the Republican base and conservative Christians will throw their support and money at the McCain-Palin ticket.

Whether we like it or not - attacking Palin for her lack of experience falls right into the GOP trap. They WANT the media and the public to see this election in terms of experience. That is how they see McCain beating Obama.

Based on what we have seen of her until now, Sarah Palin is a likeable person and a formidable political operator. It would be a big mistake to "misunderestimate" her.

It would also be a major distraction from the choice facing the country: 4 more years of the same with John McCain - or a better future with Barack Obama.

I fully support the Obama campaign's refusal to be distracted by the likeable hockey mom from Alaska. They need to focus people's attention on the fact that McCain means 4 more years of the same.

How about "The Handmaids Tale"?

I honestly believe the citizens of both Germany and Italy mocked the groups that came into power and they ignored them at their own fate.

We must not take these people lightly! We must never become lazy and cavalier!

Imagine if the Germans and Italians would have ended their "Terror Leaders", before they took total control!

Yes, this is the extreme but it always starts where we are at this point in our country.

34. And the punch line: she winds up President!
After Obama is smeared effectively by the right-wing media companies, or more likely assassinated by a Dittohead with a rifle and an uncaring Secret Service. And after McCain wins, and he drops dead of a heart attack during the excitement of the inauguration.

Thus we end up with what the GOP will proudly call "the first woman President, something the traitorous Democrats couldn't do", someone essentially owned by a foreign energy company, and someone who makes Bush look like Einstein. This scenario isn't a setup for a knock-knock joke; it's starting to look more and more likely as most of this racist country refuses to accept a black man as President.

To paraphrase the line from Buckaroo Banzai, "Laugh while you can, monkey girl!"

36. So, when do these "press conferences" and "interviews"
happen?

The reichwingers are perfectly capable of keeping her tightly controlled and restricted until after the election. Everyone's waiting for the gotcha moments on TV and print media. Unfortunately, she'll probably only appear for narrowly-scripted and approved appearances. Except for the one debate, where she'll be given softballs, there's going to be no chance to hold her accountable for her mountain of lies, incompetence, corruption, ignorance, and zealotry.

McCain and Palin actually could get elected.

I think the National Enquirer and US Magazine may take care of the low-information voter - I know we can't afford to be complacent, but I just can't take this ticket seriously at all. For now I'm just enjoying every new bit of info that comes out about Palin - the gift that keeps on giving!

55. Thanks for the great reminder of what a joke this woman is!!
:applause:

WARNING: As I discovered last night, Sarah is such a BAD joke that prolonged exposure can cause violent nausea and the uncontrollable urge to donate $50 to Obama/Biden everytime she says "Eye-rack"!

Thank you, Sarah. I'm am sure you caused A LOT of people to 'cough up' in more ways than one last night!!!

57. I hope she didn't return from Ireland with any of those dangerous "European ideas!"
I think it was Romney last night who said he wasn't afraid of what Obama took to Europe, but of what he brought back: "European ideas" that would take away our liberty.

Wish I had the quote, but I couldn't write it down while also prying my jaw off the floor.

Thanks, Nance!

59. So, Nance, when does your book come out?
And can I get an autographed copy?

I gotta tell you, though, I have a serious problem with the 50% or so of Americans are really are as dumb as a rock and will vote for her because, as my sister put it, "she seems nice," and ignore the fact that she attends a church that thinks it's just darn swell that Jews are victims of terrorist attacks, had to hire a manager to run the town she was elected to run, and carried out petty vendettas just because she could, etc., etc.

And while we're on the subject, what is with this "executive" experience meme? Quite apart from the fact that she's a fraud (supra, hired town manager), do they think the American president is like the manager of a Taco Bell? That JFK guy, nice speech about what you can do for your country and stuff, but did he know how to order reams of paper and get a discount?

84. Meanwhile, a few days ago you wrote that you would bet she'd drop out
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 10:48 PM by Awsi Dooger

That pretty much nullifies anything that follows. I predicted for days that she'd be a hit at the convention and during the campaign. I actually followed her race closely in 2006 and wasn't talking out of my ass when her named popped up last Friday.

Actually, I'll be fair. You said you're not a betting person...

Lucky for you.

85. When did I say she wouldn't be a 'hit' singing to the choir?
But one speech to die-hard GOP conventioneers does not remove all of the problems she still presents - problems that have been literally oozing out of the woodwork at an incredible pace for the past few days.

Now they're really stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place: Spend all of their time and efforts battening down the hatches, or dump her and live with the negatives that move creates.

Me, I couldn't be happier. They're fucked either way ...

88. Thank you, Nance. You're pulling me from the brink of despair
I keep running into republicans who act all excited about palin and their insanity just stuns me. They are so content with making shit up. And for what? So they can pride themselves on being for smaller, more sensible government, lower taxes, not spending their money on social programs, and being macho-tough on terrorism? It all seems so laughable because they are so blind to both their hypocrisy and how they are shooting themselves in the foot. But they're like the kids who don't like to play by the rules and take all the fun out of the game for everyone else. The bullies never tire of making such a mess of things and claiming the mess is not their fault. Please, God, send us some sane, mature, caring, and intelligent individuals into the White House. Chicken, please cross that road. The grass really is greener over here.
