Message from David Plouffe: 'What you just saw'
By Sam Graham-Felsen - Sep 4th, 2008 at 2:33 am EDT
Campaign manager David Plouffe just sent out this email...

Dear Friend --

I wasn't planning on sending you something tonight. But if you saw what I saw from the Republican convention, you know that it demands a response.

I saw John McCain's attack squad of negative, cynical politicians. They lied about Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and they attacked you for being a part of this campaign.

But worst of all -- and this deserves to be noted -- they insulted the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process.

You know that despite what John McCain and his attack squad say, everyday people have the power to build something extraordinary when we come together. Will you make a donation right now to remind them?

Both Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin specifically mocked Barack's experience as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago more than two decades ago, where he worked with people who had lost jobs and been left behind when the local steel plants closed.

Let's clarify something for them right now.

Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.

And it's no surprise that, after eight years of George Bush, millions of people have found that by coming together in their local communities they can change the course of history. That promise is what our campaign has been about from the beginning.

Throughout our history, ordinary people have made good on America's promise by organizing for change from the bottom up. Community organizing is the foundation of the civil rights movement, the women's suffrage movement, labor rights, and the 40-hour workweek. And it's happening today in church basements and community centers and living rooms across America.

Meanwhile, we still haven't gotten a single idea during the entire Republican convention about the economy and how to lift a middle class so harmed by the Bush-McCain policies.

It's now clear that John McCain's campaign has decided that desperate lies and personal attacks -- on Barack Obama and on you -- are the only way they can earn a third term for the Bush policies that McCain has supported more than 90 percent of the time.

But you can send a crystal clear message.

Enough is enough. Make your voice heard loud and clear by making a donation right now:

http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/du (edited to make it the DU link)

Thank you for joining more than 2 million ordinary Americans who refuse to be silenced.

David

1. I didn't watch the speech last night. Apparently, she just attacked Obama.
And, apparently, making fun of community organizers.

But I did donate this morning. :-)

3. Amazingly Snarky & Arrogant...

...especially coming from the party responsible for hosing up the country for the past 8 years.

They kept talking about their ticket being "reformers." Well, hell, if the Repukes hadn't screwed up so badly in the first place, there wouldn't be a need for reform.

15. Holy crap!
People hated her. LOL. As they should. I think I only saw 2 positive comments, and that's a rare thing. I wonder if CNN is deleting the positive ones, or if the reporters are working overtime. ;-) LOL

5. Plouffe message: The repukes are panicing and are lashing out in desperation
as they watch the implosion of their party. So just hang on and keep your eyes on the prize because the Wicked Witch of Wasilla will eventually self-destruct.

7. Once again, the Obama campaign has the courage to say it:

The republicans lied.

Damn right they did. And it is SO VITALLY IMPORTANT that our Dem leaders say so.

No more synonyms, no more half-apologetic near-descriptions. Say the "L" word out loud.

The Republicans are liars.

I've heard even some dyed-in-the-wool conservatives (you know: the kind who now claim they've always been Libertarians, really) acknowledge the lies, the ignorance and theft of the GOP.

I think the wider public is more than ready for some plain talk, too.

Giuliani was despicable and completely unlikeable.

21. yea, I saw him,,,
the whole thing was attack, attack, attack. What else can they do? I guess they've fired up their evil base, but I think they've forgotten how fired up we are, and that spectacle last night is a big reminder to all of us as to just how important this election is.

22. The whole tone was just mean and nasty. It's so juvenile!
It's funny because a conservative at work watched Obama last week and commented "oh, he threw in a couple jabs at McCain". I haven't talked to him yet today, but my guess is that he'll be a hypocritical prick about it. Every speech last night was nothing BUT nasty jabs at Obama, Biden and their supporters.
