Attacks, praise stretch truth at GOP convention
Source: Yahoo news

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.
PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

2. Mitten's "back to the future" moment - that was rich. I had no idea he spewed that BS!
FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

Thanks for the post - I've added that to my GOP lies reference file.

3. Amazing, coming from AP no less.
..."Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise."...

----

... And allow me to add this from AnneD in yesterday's Stock Market Watch:

"I heard Obama give a talk about health care. It was one of the most intelligent, well thought out plans, yet those for McCain wanted specifics. He was as specific as he could be-pay Nurse Educators more than floor Nurses, fund Nursing programs to get more Nurses into the prevention end, more scholarships for Nurses here in this country rather than HB1 visas, graduate more family practice docs....and that was just health care.

"The biggie that got my attention-stop companies from going into bankruptcy to dissolve pension. Pension funds should go to the head of the line of creditors, not the back. No more gold parachutes for CEO's. Damn, how long have we been saying that. They folks were clapping real hard at that-but who else heard that. I don't think the McCain backers have the attention span of a pigeon. What worker WOULDN'T want that."

4. It was this part of Gov. Palin's speach that got me thinking she is an expert liar.
It also got me to think that Sen. Obama needs to come up with plans to decrease overall Federal Government Spending. We need to balance the budget. We need to defeat the Republicans. We need to remove the Dinos from the Democratic Party. We need to heal our economy. We need to restore our Republic, and remove all the Fascist Elements that the Publicans have placed into our government. We need a restoration of checks and balances. We need justice. Gov. Palin is an abuser of power. She is a liar. She needs to never be the VP of Our Nation!

5. Finally, a superlative for Palin!
from the link:

"In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation."

This should dispel any further criticism about the meager dimensions of her governing experience. :D

6. Stretch the truth?
I've had this horrid image in my mind all week about the truth and repugs. Have you ever had the misfortune to go to WallyWorld and seen those huge repug women with the doublewide badonkadonks, crammed into a tube top and shorts?

Looks like a can of biscuits busted open.

That's what the truth looks like when the repugs try to stretch it all out of shape and put it on.

It may have been truth when it started out, but by the time they wrench and wrest and pull it all out of proportion, it's no longer fit for human consumption. It's not cute, it's not pretty, and it's no longer truth.

There's no reason for us to put up with this mediocrity any longer.
