My 82 year old Mom just started 'paying attention'.

They retired from NJ to AZ about 15 years ago. She loves the desert and always sends me things like saguaro jelly, and kokopelli earrings.. She just emailed me:

East Coast Elite? Yipes! I did listen to most of Palin's speech, until I just couldn't take any more. Little has been made of the sarcasm which was rampant, but which bothered me a whole lot. Little of real substance, and a real treat to all the red necks who thinks that anyone who can speak a grammatical sentence is "liberal" and an "elite"!!!

This is the little old lady who sighs & shuts me up with "Do you always have to talk politics? Please try to give it a rest..at least at the dinner table."

Alas, when my mum talked with me last week she made a specific point of reminding me that she is "a republican." To which I responded, "Gee Mom, get on the cutting edge and open a 'Republicans for Obama' chapter in your area." No luck. ;)

7. A lot of that going around this morning amoung the undecideds

and those non-political junkies. A friend of mine, who is only moderately interested in politics commented on my blog this morning that even her husband (who's apolitical) kept telling her to turn off the speech because it was hardly listenable. She could barely watch it either and she's not exactly a big Obama supporter. As a matter of fact she was thinking about not voting at all. That has changed. Even hubby said She was screeching with no substance.

Maybe the moderates, independents and undecideds are on to them!

14. I envy you

My mom is also 82, and a life long Democrat. She has always been politically tuned in and fiercely left leaning, but now she's singing the praises of McShame, says Palin was "impressive', and even said that Sam Brownback is "handsome" and that she is so "proud" he'll be speaking tonight.

I am honestly at wit's end. I can hardly bear to have a conversation with her because I know what's coming. It could be Alzheimer's or senile dementia, but her late life conversion is killing me. I've seen her through a lot, but I draw the line at this.
