Flick Palin is that mean girl in high school |
|
Who made fun of the disabled kids and laughed at them.
I think every person in the country remembers that girl. The girl who spit in the face of the nerd who was dreaming about her. The girl who exposed the secrets of others to ridicule.
It may not the Issue, but it goes to her character and it's immediate, which is what works in soundbite world.
No one has to come along, but I am officially branding her Mean Girl, from the movie. Blog it, peeps. Everyone needs to imprint the populace with the fact of her sarcasm and hostility so we can hit her hard with the issues and everyone will be on board.

I think your comparison is quite apt.

The people of alaska, for one. they say she is a power-hungry user who throws people away for no good reason even after they've helped her get elected.
If you don't like what I said, that's fine, but you can't say she didn't come across to much of America like a nasty piece of work last night. She was sarcastic and mean, and even the AP found tons of areas in her speech where she outright lied.

4. The OP was expressing an opinion. In the OP's opinion, Palin came off badly last night. |

You got a problem with someone expressing an opinion?

22. Both as mayor and as governor, she made a habit of rewarding her cronies |
|
and firing anyone who got in her way.
And last night, at the convention, she showed her true stripes.
She's definitely one of the mean girls. Mean, nasty, and smug. Yuk.

6. She reminds me of the selfish spiteful neighbor who gets herself elected to the school board |
|
The woman everyone in the neighborhood hates. She's always gossiping about everyone else even though her life is a shambles underneath the veneer. She brags about her kids but they actually run wild and she's never around when they need her. She can't pick them up from soccer practice because she's "busy." She circulates petitions against anyone in the neighborhood who is different. Their lawn isn't properly cut or their gay or their lawn ornament is out of compliance with the HOA.
At church (which she doesn't attend regularly) she makes a big show of being the most devout and the best-dressed and she starts projects and dominates planning meetings but she never shows up to do the actual work. Two weeks later she's loudly claiming credit for how well it went, even though she was hours late and swanned around the room talking instead of doing anything useful.
Eventually she gets herself elected to town council or school board on some divisive issue - "think of the children!, ban the books!, there's queers here!" and makes a whole new group of people miserable.

11. I believe those approval ratings were taken |
|
before the troopergate investigation.
I've read many of the blogs and papers from Alaska in the last few days and in no way did anyone speak of her in glowing terms. Many Alaskans venture that she got those high approval ratings because their taxes were lowered and they are getting big checks from the oil company.
If you want to defend her, start your own thread. I am working on a branding issue here that I care about. You don't have to agree and you don't need to read it.

And we can brand Obama as the cool guy in the varsity jacket.
Palin is 44 and a sitting governor. You think high school analogies are going to get us very far? But as I said, work away.

I thought we were on the same side here. I hardly know what your problem is with my post. Care to define it more than to quote approval ratings at me and then not respond to the fact that they are not accurate for today? She has a history of making enemies quickly after starting jobs, as the recall movement for her as mayor indicates.
High school analogies don't work? Really? Why do you care what I write about here, number one, and number two, are you in the marketing business? media? Because I am and I damn well know they work. bush got elected because he's the guy you wanna have a beer with. Reagan. Nixon. the Republicans have been doing this for years. It's called branding. High school is actually extremely visceral for most people and is an extremely reliable tool used in marketing all of the time.
Your condescension is really not appreciated regarding my phrase "working away". I was trying to have a productive thread.

|
Then do that. Sorry to stand in your way. My only point is that it seems kind of juvenile to try to brand a 44-year-old woman as the mean girl in high school. Just my take on it.
But I'm no expert in marketing like you are.

Thanks for the credit, but I actually said I work in media -- no expert about it.
It may be juvenile, but another way of looking at it is that it is effective.
I didn't post this to create antagonism.
Peace.

9. Exactly! and thanks for the support |
|
everyone...I don't know why people think they can tell others what their opinion should or should not be. BS on that. AND I'm trying to get Obama elected, which was the reason I wrote that -- not just to spout off, though that's something I may want to do someday, too!
My real point here is that the way the Repubes win is by branding with a visceral, immediate image, which evokes emotion.
so many of us seem to have the same response to her, and it seems founded in reality to the people's reactions to her in Alaska who know here personally.
It could be very helpful to brand her this way -- it's like short hand to say we can't trust her... Does anyone have a better word for it or better branding than mean girl? I thought the tracy flick reference was apt as well.
Palin Flick?
Tracy Palin?
I know some of you are extremely talented in the wit and pun dept -- so if anyone has any ideas....let me know.

12. I would but a good deal of the people on this board seem convinced that's how you win votes. |
|
Or that's how you... are an imperfect, "just like us" sort of person.
Fuck it. I give up trying to understand.

17. ha ha-- you are so right |
|
it's tough to keep up with.
I can't believe the reactions here -- number one, I can't believe there are people in this party who still think it's all about issues. hello? Yes, we have the issues on our side and we need to discuss them; However, this thread was not about that. It was about branding, for god's sake.
number 2, it is not an either or situation. Branding is good for quick comments, emails, etc. It doesn't replace serious debate. I suppose my use of the word "blogging" is not exactly accurate, as I intended this to mean generally when you're leaving comments, etc this kind of branding can work well (like mcsame) when it's repeated.
Whatever.
I am off to register voters anyway. Thanks to the people who tried to support my right to voice an opinion.

i am not trying to take away from the MANY legitimate issues we CAN and WILL beat her on.
Perhaps I should not have posted anything....I am getting the picture that this kind of non-issue related attack is not appreciated.
Personally, I will use anything I've seen work to win it. It's a Rovian tactic, no doubt. That doesn't bother me one bit.
Peace.

there are a few other posts -- one of them links to an article, I believe (I can't find it right now) where people have called her that.
She's Tracy Flick ambition wise and yet she has the "appeal" factor of those horrible Mean Girls like the movie.
Kind of scary combo. And doing a ton to bring women down, to boot. Did you see those buttons they had last night? "Hottest VP candidate from the coolest state"? Patriarchal Barbie.
