Someone please shoot me. Freepy co-worker is singing Palin's praises to the heavens.
She said to me, completely without guile, "how can you call yourself a feminist and not vote for her?"

I actually found myself sputtering in disbelief. I asked her to leave my office, but I can hear her down the hall, kvelling about the Palin children and how cute they are, as if this is a legitimate reason to vote for the McCain ticket.

The capper? She said, "In 8 years, she's going to be the first woman president and I'm going to fall on my knees and thank God."

And this is the NY metro area.

I'm in shock. Snap me out of it, DU.

17. Those who are informed and vote are a fairly liberal bunch.
I'm hearing grudging respect from some of the women in my demographic (moms in their 40s). But these women are also fairly apolitical. Many won't vote.

My pal (another DUer) called Palin a lying sack of shit. That didn't go down too well. Truth hurts.

14. My boss's boss was doing the same thing this morning.
They were having a department head meeting just outside of my office so I heard it all. He began by asking if anyone had heard the speech last night, and then began to have a full blown orgasm talking about how great the speech was and how "Sarah Palin will be the president in 2012, if not before". The other five idiots around the table all seemed to agree with him including my boss, who would have also agreed with him if he had said the same about anyone. (Windsock much?) The funny part was that after he said this he added "if they don't find any skeletons her closet." WTF?

I thought my head was going to simply explode. My boss chimed in about how the Palin family has problems just like we all do. :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

These people are not batshitcrazy fundie types, btw. They all work in the public sector, either with kids or older adults. They know from community organizers, yet they still reacted this way. I really felt ill. My blood pressure shot through the roof - I could feel it. I could not believe my ears.

15. Did you ask her why?
Because if she has real reasons for voting for her - i.e. is she anti-choice, anti-special needs education, pro earmark, etc. - then there's not a lot you can do to change such beliefs before Nov. and your energy could be spent elsewhere.

I've found that the fiscially conservative, socially liberal repbulicans can be persuaded by an honest discussion about taxes and how they will impact them based on their income. There is a chart from the Washington Post that helps to illustrate the Obama tax cut for the middle class that I find helpful.

If this person is socially conservative, I can see why she would support an extremist like Palin. Palin is about as right wing as they come.

20. She is an old-school, hard-line Catholic
with all that entails. I don't think Obama has any worries about carrying NY, so I have no intention of wasting my time trying to change her vote. There is work to be done in Ohio, Indiana, and (dare I say it?) Florida where my time can be better put to use talking to the middle Republicans you mention.

This woman would support Palin's vote against funding for special needs children because she opposes ALL social programs. Even public school. She is also an extremely wealthy woman who boasts about never having given one dime to charity. I try to practice compassion and empathy for all people (reasoning that she probably has problems of her own that I have no idea about), but it is just damned difficult to get my head that far up my ass.

21. Still, I don't see New York turning red in November.
I don't agree with attacking Sarah Palin - which will only reinforce the idea that she is facing unfair attacks because she is a woman and a working mom.

I believe in pointing out her opposition to universal healthcare, abortion rights, sex education in public schools, help for teen moms, support for kids with special needs.

I also believe in drumming home the message that after 8 years of Bush-Cheney - John McCain would bring us 4 more years of the same (with or without Palin's help).

I will not waste my time with this woman (I never have). She is one of the 29%-ers. She adores * and has since day 1. He has apparently done no wrong since inauguration day 2001.

I had some hope for her earlier this year when she said she'd consider voting for Obama as long as Hillary wasn't his running mate :eyes: but now I see that she is, and always has been, a lost cause.

She opposes universal health care and every other social program that she begrudges being made to pay for. She is wealthy, doesn't like to share, and doesn't see why she should be forced to turn over money that SHE WORKED FOR to anyone else--for any reason. She is the least charitable, most un-christian woman I have ever met.

22. Just be happy you're not in a swing state
Here in NJ, about 30 minutes ago, I was at the recycling center when I heard the Oxycontin man blaring out of the open windows of a car parked nearby. An elderly couple was standing outside it, talking to a lady who was nodding her head in agreement with whatever they were saying. After dropping off my stuff, I decided to pay closer attention to them. I heard "there's no way I'll let a MUSLIM become president" and "I read he's not even born in the US", among other things. I simply walked up to them and said "Please stop, the stupid is burning my eyes", then drove off. There's no hope for these types.

She isn't stupid. She is a highly qualified accountant who gives financial seminars to senior citizens in her spare time. She is deeply deluded, but she is far from stupid. She is for SARAH PALIN the person. As long as Palin didn't get onstage and vomit on the podium, she was going to hit a home run ball. She can speak in full sentences and is nice to look at (and she's not "shrill" like that awful Hillary person). And she has a CUTE BABY! She could have babbled away in Croatian and this woman wouldn't have cared.

Everything gets talked about in this office. It's that sort of place (you should have been around during the Olympics when the male physiques were being discussed and analyzed). Usually nobody minds, and if someone does, a quick word will suffice. She just happens to be exceptionally vocal about something about which I care deeply, and that's pissing me off to an exponential degree. She should know better than to engage me, but it's not worth reporting her for.

51. "In 8 years, she's going to be the first woman president and I'm going to thank God"
Let's see how many ways that statement is totally wrong......

1) Obama/Biden is going to win in November.

2) Even if the election was stolen, there's no way in Hell Gramps is going to be around 8 years from now.

3) Dan Quayle never had a chance in Hell of running on his own. Neither would Tundra Barbie.

4) If by some bizarre sickening twist of circumstances Tundra Barbie ever DID end up in the Oval Office, GOD certainly wouldn't have anything to do with it. (Message to the people who believe God takes sides in elections: Take a lesson from His response to the prayers about raining out Obama's speech in Denver. O8))
