Rudy couldn't stop talking - McCain camp forced to scrap a planned video ahead of Palin's speech

http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/The_teleprompter_did_not_break.html

<snip>

These extemporaneous comments, many of which drew huge applause, made the former New York mayor's speech run much longer than planned. So much so, that a convention-planner confirms that they had to scrap a planned video ahead of Palin's speech.

1. I THOUGHT he hadn't been allotted that much time! KO read a
schedule when he first came on last night, and I was a bit surprised at how little time each speaker was allocated. Obviously they couldn't control Rudy!

2. Why worry about running late? Does St. Paul close at 10?

6. I figured it was because
they didn't want to do a biography video of Palin -- they would have had to show Wasilla.

7. I was starting to wonder if she had fainted or was backing out.
But if it spares me watching a video of Palin, then I guess that's OK.

8. I think that was a costly decision for the Repubs
I have a feeling that the video intro would have been a small-town, great-mommy piece that buttered viewers up and would have made her attacks more acceptable in context of a character introduction. Instead, they skipped the introduction to do the attacks while everyone was still trying to figure out who she was.

10. Maybe Rudy's upset because he was passed over, so he decided to
sabotage her night. Or maybe he just likes to hear himself talk and enjoyed basking in the applause of all the other hate-filled assholes.

12. I had heard that they did it on purpose
to keep the "pundits" from commenting on Rudy's speech. Olbermann got cut off twice when he tried to break in, so it worked.
