12. I'm a low poster

I've been reading DU for years. Retired Air Force, now full-time student (wannabe middle school math teacher)

I share lots of what is going on here with my other favorite board - mostly women talking about saving money. A couple of them hate me, but most love my posts. One even said she wants me to run for President -lol!

But I thought it was some sort of club, and didn't realize that just anyone could join and post until about three years had passed.

I used to comment, aloud, on the various threads until my (ex)girlfriend said, "Why don't you just join and tell them what you think?".

I have other places I use to post so I mainly would just browse these forums to see what some of you had to say and to get information.

During the primaries, a lot of nastiness and ignorance was being posted... which was to somewhat be expected because we were all supporters of competing candidates.

But after the primaries, I continued to see the nastiness and ignorance, it hit my boiling point. So I decided it was time for me to stop being a silent observer and start actually contributing something.

but I've been here a while reading as an education on American politics. Couldn't stand it here during the primaries, no offense, but now with everything in full swing, it feels safer to add 2 cents every now and again.

I find it extremely educational, funny (most of the time). One time I was even nominated for DUzy.

I joined during the 2004 primary season, and was really attacked by some long-time posters who were convinced anyone with a low post count was a troll. Even when I said something really progressive people would attack me for being a troll for saying stuff so obviously OTT I must have been pretending to be progressive! :crazy:

Meanwhile, I've now been a mod on here twice, and believe me, there are many "stealth trolls" who rack up 1000 silly posts in the Lounge before revealing their true evil little souls elsewhere on the board, so post count is not a stead-fast indication of trollishness or progressiveness by any means.

that a low post count doesn't necessarily equate with being a new member of the DUcommunity, troll or otherwise. For example, a few nights ago I had a good exchange with Missie56. At that time, Missie had a post count of eight (still only nine today). However, Missie's profile revealed DU membership since Dec 04th 2004! I usually check the profile.

I've been around for years and rarely posted. But this Sarah Palin issue has incensed me in a way that I've not been incensed in a long time.

I simply cannot grasp the idea that in the very short time frame in which this woman has come to the forefront of the presidential election discussion, so much factual, disturbing information has been discovered about her, and there are still people who will vote for her. In fact, they seem to love her.

I guess that fact (i.e., that people would vote for someone as calloused as she obviously is) truly just scares the crappola outta me.

Good heavens, have you all seen the video of the aerial wolf hunts in Alaska which she supports? If that alone is not enough to make you afraid of this woman, what would it seriously take?
