29. The pale example of Eagleston and McGovern
proved McGovern was damned because he backed down and damned if he didn't try to get out from under a fundamental distraction.

There are no solutions for McCain other than bluffing it out and then having this one decision as a perfect final scapegoat to cover his multiple fails. "At least i didn't back down!"

Hoisted on own petard. The impunity gambits cannot be backtracked without losing face, power, the game. They have nothing else to fall back on and losing nobly isn't one of them. This is a "fundamental" part of their whole ham sandwich system. There is no way out unless she gets a believable, spinnable health problem(which will be blamed of course on mean Democrats).

They did this entirely on their own. No Dem operative went to plant or uncover a single story(unlike the subterranean sinking of the Dems in 68 and 72). The floodgates just opened. They are so truly self destructive, still bluffing to win, that it is truly scary, madness beyond the bounds of normal madness.

Meanwhile we have an outstanding ticket better than the last several. Lingering problems. MSM. Election fraud. Racism. People here must try and remember the big picture. This is an open year election without a big dominant national hero like Eisenhower to MAKE it a walkover. Both parties start out assured of 40% of the electorate. The electoral splits themselves currently favor Obama big time. The public is in vast, almost vocal mass movement away from the GOP, pulling at the GOP loyalists and myth believers. The GOP is going wild with wild cards and God knows what else to play this Hillary style with a save at the very end by terror and cheating and smokescreens. We do not have a full slate mandate for progressive change or even perhaps all the changes needed to save our collective hides.

Reagan's people against an incumbent Carter had to warn their people about complacency. Thanks to MSM and GOP fraud we should need no such warning. Get to work. present our candidates to the people. GOTV.

36. Agreed completely
Much as we'd all like to see Palin out, that would be far worse for McCain than any baggage she brings with her, short of a criminal indictment (and maybe not even that).

9. The Bush anomaly
If we had real investigative journalism at major news outlets, then Bush would have been another Nixon. In the end, though, Bush and Nixon will share only their rock-bottom approval ratings.

As for Palin and her many issues, the only way they will stick is if the MSM decides to GRIND it into the dirt every day for weeks, just like they did with the Rev. Wright nonsense.

5. She'll stick around

There are issues here, and more issues coming, yes. But if you haven't noticed, the Repug spin machine is doing everything it can to both focus elsewhere, and to paint Palin as a victim when the issues are brought up. And don't be surprised if it works. Do you see the mainstream media talking about her far-right resume? I sure as hell don't. As usual, this one won't be about the issues, unfortunately.

19. As well they should be - their political reporting has been spot-on as of late
They seem to be doling out the cash for dirt and its paying off. They have also started treating their "reporting" a lot more seriously than just the typical whisper-whisper innuendo that they used to be their hallmark.

I hope they bring this whole house of cards crumbling down. Might even buy a copy or two to show my support for a job well done.

13. Ah yes, I remember that post
I think it was the day she was announced - we were all saying, "who? what?". Someone came in with a post saying not to worry, she's been on the radar and there's loads upon loads of dirt on her. I believe they said they were well connected to know these things, not sure if it was NE or another organization.

12. If half of what we're hearing is true, I don't see how...
she can pass the national security clearance. They don't play with that, especially if you've had any involvement with a subversive organization. Maybe McCain's influence can get her through, I'm not sure how that works.

18. link to evidence of involvement with "subversive" organization?
I assume you're referring to AIP. Is there a link that currently identifies it as a "subversive" organization (as opposed to an organization of silly nutjobs?)

25. I don't know a whole lot about it..
but there were posters who were claiming it was secessionist. The questions they ask in those n.s. interviews (I know because I've been through several) are very specific about whether the person has ever been involved with an organization which engages in "subversive" activities. IF she lied on her questionnaire that could be problematic too.

21. I think she'll stick around
I think her speech appealed to Republicans and her attacks on Obama fired them up. She may have more issues coming up but removing her from the ballot or her "withdrawing" would create even larger problems within the party. It would take a huge scandal for Palin to not be on the ballot.

Obviously, they know the guy's name. Everyone in Alaska does or will very shortly.

I can't imagine they would have run that without asking "what's this guy's name?" and then contacting him before running with the story.

And I'm betting McCain is pissed about Palin not revealing some of these scandals to him.

I definitely believe there's more out there than we know about.

McCain probably knows about it now and its driving him nuts (more so than he already is). He can't dump her or he's instantly sunk - so he's going to weather the storm and its looking like its going to be a rough one.

35. The only play I can see is this

-They are a loser party with loser ideas running a loser campaign against better people

-Run an unkown female, Palin, and see how it plays. Extreme enough to get fundies on board, but lets see how it plays with the indies

-Say anything and everything about opposition Dems and deflect any critique toward Rep candidate as being sexist

-Run it and play it. Give a canned speech, look cute and giddy...attack Dems. Use sexism as defense

-Check polls

-If polls look good and people are falling for bullshit keep VP on ticket

-If the stink don't fly and wymen folk arent jumping on the Goodship LollySlop, have McCain be a TRUE maverick and dump Palin for some issue. Maybe the abuse of power is a ready made issue.

-McCain will dump embattled VP saying he demands honesty and corruption will not be tolerated. Also take this opportunity to take another dig at Librul media, calling on them to be civil to new VP choice

-Palin falls on sword for the Republicans

-McCain appoints Hucakee as VP pick keeping base intact and siphoning indies and others who love his Mavericknish

-Polls respond in favor of move

-McCain wins election

-Palin becomes Fox New anchor
