Jay Carney reveals McCain meltdown/strategy
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 01:30 PM by TwoSparkles
Jay Carney, the Washington Bureau Chief for "Time" magazine was just on MSNBC, discussing his
recent encounter with John McCain.

McCain sounds like he's in the process of a complete meltdown.

Carney has been around for a long time. He's not a showboat. He really is a true "journalist."
He used to be on the McLaughlin group and he was always dignified and very reasonable.

Carney described a recent meeting meeting with McCain, in which an interview with McCain would
take place.

A bit of back story--Carney mentioned that he and McCain have had a long, friendly relationship.
When Carney was first starting out, McCain opened doors for Carney and told him he could have
access to Washington meetings and he actually said to Carney, "You can go into any meeting with me,
unless someone else kicks you out."

Carney said he boarded McCain's plane and (this is a direct quote), "McCain was like something out of
the 'Body Snatchers.'"

Carney said he sat down to interview McCain, and he started with some "softball questions" and McCain
curtly told Carney to "read my books" and that "all of those answers were in there".

Carney went on to day that McCain was, "startlingly different for someone who used to interact with the media
so easily," and he added, "John McCain was qualitatively different. He's clearly decided that the enemy is
the media."

Carney said that a McCain aid launched an attack against Carney this morning, "at the suggestion that Sarah
Palin would have to answer some questions, and the American people want to know that she is capable of
answering questions."

Wow. So this is how McCain is going to play it. He's making the media the enemy right when Palin is
being introduced to the American public and when many new stories will come out about her.

After all--McCain didn't appropriately vet Palin. He was incompetent in his hasty choice of her, and
now he knows that the dirt on her is going to be dumped in truckloads. That's what he's really angry
about and he's positioning the media as the bad guy--and Sarah Palin and his campaign as the victims.

In my opinion, this signals that John McCain is fit to be tied about what he knows is coming down the pike.

You don't shut out the media when you have a great candidate that you want to tout and celebrate. You
open the doors and foster relationships with the media--when you know you've got an amazing candidate
that the people will love--once they get to know her.

Man...this is really going to get good people. Pass the 'corn.

(edited to add video clip of Jay Carney on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" today--clashing heads
with McCain mouthpiece, who clearly demonstrates that McCain' angle on this is that
Palin doesn't have to talk with the media. Oy vey). http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/26543853#26543853

2. How in the hell...
do they think that they can run for pres/vice and not answer any questions but expect Obama to answer all of these bullshit nonsense questions. I want to see what will be asked at these debates I do not see how he or she can get away with this tactic for long..

8. Evidence that McCain is a hot-headed idiot...
He needs the media. The media needs him.

Yes, you get ticked at them, but it's understood that you need
to maintain a relationship--because you'll need the media in the end,
to run a successful campaign.

Acting like a complete degenerate--only shows that McCain is an angry,
imbalanced old coot who would rather shoot himself in the foot than
be an adult.

McCain sounds like a real freak.

Also, I think this is part of some PR stunt. When the dirt on Palin
comes out--and when she fails miserably when she's not reading a teleprompter--
he's going to need a scapegoat.

Seems like he's setting up that media for that role.

Can you even see her on "Meet the Press?" They know damn well they can't allow her to do that.
So, really--they've screwed themselves--and McCain knows it.

They both specifically...
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 01:51 PM by TwoSparkles
...disagree with the media asking "Is Trig Sarah Palin's baby or Bristol Palin's baby?" and
also the media's focus on Bristol's current pregnancy.

Mika never believed the story, never looked into it--but apparently she witnessed some
of her colleagues salivating over this story. Mika said these reporters were "joyful"
about this.

Mika was disgusted. However, she has repeatedly questioned Palin's readiness and her
lack of experience. She's not shy about saying that she wonders if Palin is ready
to deal with the tough issues.

I'm not sticking up for Mika. Most of the time she's really irritating, and takes all
of her cues from Scarborough. She spends most of her time agreeing and parroting whatever
Joe says with, "Yes...oh I agree...yup...uh huh....oh yeah...absolutely."

She really comes off as weak.

3. I think McCain HAD NO CHOICE but to tap Palin just as RW theocrats demanded
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 01:00 PM by blm
as if it was actually UP TO McCAIN, he would be running with Ridge or Liebermasn.

Look into the CNP and Moonie connections. They are used to getting their say with Bush and Cheney and McCain has already proven in the early primaries that he is unable to stand up to them.

McCain can't stand that he is going to go down in history as a FRAUD and that was made certain when Kerry's speech at the Dem convention pointedly described CANDIDATE McCain as the prisoner of the RW and nothing like the old Senator McCain who reached across the aisle every now and then to disagree with Bush and the RW theocrats.

9. Very true. I remember when Dole was running.
He was normally a good-natured sort but when he got the nod to run for prez he turned downright angry. My guess is the fundies were getting to him at that time too. With McCain the end result of this process is even more remarkable. Coupled with his age and health problems this is a recipe for a complete and total meltdown.

10. Absolutely - and nothing is more flammable than a once decent human being who knows he's being seen
now as a fraud, and deservedly so. He has BECOME everything he used to loathe. Once he ate the liver and pretended he liked it, he has to eat liver 3 times a day now for the rest of his life.

13. He had a choice
He showed he has no guts. He didn't have the courage to pick the candidate that he wanted. I was afraid he would pick Lieberman and I think that would've been a very tough ticket.

7. I knew this was going to happen
I never vilified McCain like others did because I knew how this was going to end. He turned away from even doubting the party line to mouth it daily no matter how crazy and whackedout it got.

This is sad to watch. Not that he should be President but I get the feeling that he didn't just win because of the horrifically bad field on their side I think someone wanting to send him to the slaughter.

Sad to see.

Just like my hubby when he took the garbage.
Everytime he would go nuts and grouchy in front of the kids, I would say "Ambien...Papaw" as a gentle reminder to chill.

Now, when he gets grouchy the kids call him AmbientPapaw

24. Thank you for that helpful information...
...and also for the link.

Wow, McCain must be psychotic by now.

Combine PTSD, a hot-headed temperament, a lack of sleep, the side effects
of Ambien, being denied the veep candidate you wanted by your own party,
and a veep candidate with tons of baggage--who was forced on you--and
you've got a recipe for complete mental meltdown!

I hate to be so gleeful, but he would destroy this country--so I won't feel too bad.
