PREDICTION: October Surprise - Bookmark This Thread
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 12:59 PM by IWantAnyDem
Everybody likes to talk about October surprises and I think there's a major surprise in the works.

DUers are going to skoff at me because of this, but here goes:

In Late October, T. Boone Pickens will endorse Barack Obama as the best candidate to handle the energy crisis in a responsible manner.

Now please, hear me out on this. I think I understand what's going to happen

Watching the T. Boone Pickes' ads and listening to Barack Obama on energy, the two are completely convergent. Obama wants federal moneys to go into alterantive energies and Pickens wants to move into alternative energy sources because he sees where petroleum is going.

Pickens wants to build a huge windfarm in the Great Plains Wind Corridor. He also wants to convert transportation energy from standard petroleum to natural gas. This fits in with Obama's overall plan and would also be bbeneficial to the economy.

Think of it, several problems solved in one action.

This would eb the biggest public works project for energy since the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority). It lowers our dependence upon foreign oil and moves us forward on lessening the effects of global warming.

The puzzle pieces fit.

so bookmark this thread and see if I'm right.

1. If you're wrong, can I scoff at and mock you?

Actually, your scenario sounds plausible...

2. And I predict Colin Powell will endorse Obama shortly after this RNC.
I think Palin's pick as VP will seal the deal for Powell.

and he knows it.

And Obama has pushed a partnership between both the public and private sectors on energy.

14. I am really liking the algae / sewage treatment models. Growing crops for fuel not so much.

15. Yes! The algae engineering is the one I was thinking of. Crops? How about Hemp?
I think Vermont has recently legalized it.

20. It would be down the list for me, simply because of the dual use in waste treatment
Which just about every town already has. Plus algae has so much higher return, even than hemp. But I think our solutions will come from all over, algae here, hemp there, solar, wind, geothermal, tide. It's a pretty exciting time for innovation!
(thinking about this sort of thing is how I keep the despair subdued)

8. Could be. Not out of any altruistic or idealistic motivation, but the candidate
whose energy policy who most closely matches his proposals, which would end up making Boone even more wealthy, will probably get the endorsement.

Although he's said he's neutral this time around and won't be endorsing.

No need to bookmark. If it plays out as you predict, I'm sure you'll remind us all and supply the link! :7 :hi:

12. Well, they did recently have a meeting, didn't they?
So it's not that wild a prediction. McCain only wants to drill. So he can't possibly be on the same page as Pickens.

16. Your posting reminded me of their meeting
I'm not a fan of Pickens. But if including him in a solution and if his endorsement helps get Obama the presidency them I hope he endorses.

17. I can see it going either way -- Big T moving toward one or the other
Toward Obama:
I sometimes hope the Republicans won't steal this one because there is a lot of clean up necessary, as well as rapid leap into developing alternative energy before most fossil fuels run out, and Obama can make that happen. Let him win and bring in revolutionary but very necessary ideas, including national health insurance which will help our workers survive on lower wages by removing health expenses, and help businesses compete without those burdens. Hope they will allow the nation's choice to win and take us into that new territory because the global climate crisis seems to be following a more severe path than we had hoped. They can see the handwriting on the wall regarding energy and need an Obama to push the country toward significant changes.

Toward JSM III:
Failin Palin said it last night-- they want to go for every type of energy available, including lots of nuclear plants. McBombBomb would promise to go for all that alternative stuff and gas and oil too. So the T. would endorse him because JSM III would be more likely to work on establishing ways for large corporations to monopolize alternative energy sources and power distribution. So the T. could stay with JSM III in order to privatize new energy sources in fewer hands.

18. PREDICTION: In spite of all this, McCain will still win.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 01:41 PM by bob_weaver
R's have made it clear they are playing hardball, and the D's won't. Gore wouldn't, Kerry wouldn't, and so far Obama won't. They seem to think it's better to lose with honor than win by playing dirty. What has that gotten them? 8 years of Bush/Cheney. R's are going to play dirty, nasty, and unfair, and D's won't play the same game, and will suffer for that decision. Politics is war, not chess.

19. I saw Pickens on Fox Noise yesterday. Said he's voting for McCain.
Since he financed the Swift Boat ads, I doubt he'll flip-flop.
