Finally! Sebelius and Wasserman Push Back on Palin
by DJShay

............................

Sebelius:
* On being a "small town" mayor:

"I live in the American heartland, and have been a governor for six years," she said. "I don't know any mayor in any small town in Kansas -- and we have a lot of mayors of small towns -- who hires a lobbyist and goes after earmarks the way Sarah Palin did." On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that, as mayor of Wasilla, Palin secured more than $27 million in federal earmarks for a town with only 6,700 residents.

* On the lack of substance in Palin's speech

Sebelius would have none of it. "What I hear from these folks in the heartland, is that people want to know how they're going to afford health care ... whether they're going to keep their jobs (and manage) the cost of gas and groceries," Sebelius said. "Again last night, what we heard were partisan attacks and no real solutions. ... I work with a Republican legislature every day. And I know what people expect us to do ... is to roll up your sleeves and get the job done."

That was just a warm up.

Wasserman Schultz:

* On Palin's habit of lying

Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz hammered a similar theme to Sebelius, saying that Palin "had a real problem with the truth last night" and adding that "even her hometown newspaper said she stretched the truth." (a reference to Thursday's Anchorage Daily News headline: "Some Of Palin's Remarks Stretch The Truth.")

* The lack of "authenticity" of her speech

"Whenever I have had to give significant speeches, I've spent a lot of time with the people assisting me in drafting remarks, adding my own voice," Schultz said. "Last night, I only heard Sarah Palin's voice (through) negative partisan attacks, with no substance or vision of where she thinks the country should go."

* And the "reformer" label the McCain's camp has been pushing

"Where is the beef? Where is the evidence? Sarah Palin is not a reformer, she is under investigation in her home state for the abuse of power in trying to get a state trooper fired... If her best example of being a reformer was trying to sell a plane on E-Bay, that is not my definition of reform."

6. I wasn't a fan of her either but the past week, she has probably been
one of the strongest advocates for Obama/Biden, and particularly from a woman's perspective, to appear on the biased RW cable news sites... and she doesn't bite her tongue. Good to see her on our side!

19. I was throwing things at her tv image during the primary but
now I am starting to like how she is talking it up for Obama and against the Pugs.

what I don't like is being used like that? what a horrible job it must be to have to put on different face masks all the time...

she was viscious during the primary and altho she is doing okay now against McAnus, that fire and spittle is missing that she had against Obama. maybe it's yet to come.

24. I will admit she did annoy during the primary, but I am loving her now.
She is kicking some ass and taking names too. Sebelius was awesome as well! More of this! :woohoo:

3. Good stuff. I especially like Sebelius' comments
on Palin's failure to discuss any real issues. Sebelius is a very smart politician.

4. Palin's speech was evidently tailored strictly for their base, which is a pretty stupid move
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 01:09 PM by BridgeTheGap
for a prime time event. This appears evident in the reactions of independents to her speech. Most recognized that it was the same old, same old - short on substance, long on rhetoric. Then there was the mean spirited aspects of the speech, coupled with out and out lies.
Man, it must be tough when you have to ignore what your party has done for the last 8 years!

27. Does this mean that McCain will be conciliatory after three days of bile?
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 02:17 PM by Alter Ego
Will he talk of bipartisanship and getting things done? Will he talk about his OWN economic plans rather than just bashing Barack Obama's?

Don't bet on it. If he is insulting like Palin it will only hurt him more. If he is conciliatory, though, someone with a brain (and it only takes one someone) will say "If McCain is really that interested in bipartisanship, why were the other speakers so vicious?"

I wouldn't bet on the issues-oriented speech, though--because that would be playing Obama's game. On the issues, there is no escaping his voting record. Obama wins if he suddenly does an about-face and starts caring about issues.

21. Yep
And I can't wait for it. There's no doubt there will be major media interest in what she has to say. She's been really quiet through most of this and I think she's just stewing for a fight. Piling up her evidence. It's gonna be a :nuke:

20. Waiting until after the convention no doubt..
I think it was a mistake to make people think palin was an answer to dissatified Hillary voters when she's obviously red meat for whackjob hypocrites.

But, this allows Hillary to join in and setting America straight..no problemo.

18. Sebelius is a bright star for us - she speaks and everyone listens
Of particular importance is that she inferred that she works with a Republican legislature to get things done and didn't attack them.

Sebelius, Wasserman, Hillary, Boxer, and our host of strong women's voices are going to be important in framing Palin and everything about her in the upcoming election.
