Biggest Mistake EVER- Pissing off the organizers |
|
That can effectively run the grass roots campaign.
This is what they DO, they bring people together. They talk to people of opposing views and get them to see the middle. They co-ordinate, plan, implement and then move to the next project. In any city with more than 500 people in it there is at least ONE community outreach program or neighborhood betterment situation.
With our economy the way it is- there are more out there than ever.
In my town alone- 4 churches with outreach programs Soup Kitchen An Elderly assistance group, meals on wheels. Shriners (Burn fundraisers, cancer fundraisers etc) Masons (Come together assistance for burnout homes etc) Another Elderly assistance program, where people visit nursing homes and make geriatrics feel not so alone. Boys Club Girls Club
There are more but these are just off the top of my head. FYI- My town has about 4500 people in it. Most small towns have an area outside the city limits that they "service" with these programs and fundraisers.
Like I said - Biggest Mistake EVER

4. Palin's jab at Community Organizers may prove to be the final nail in the GOP coffin. |
|
your point is so well taken. I've done my share of COing work, as have millions of voters, and this insulting reference will be found personally offensive by these same millions of voters and their families and friends -- many of them Independents and probably even some Republicans. Palin opens her mouth and in a single sentence personally insults millions of voters who are highly skilled at what they do, and mobilizes them to take her and McSame down.
There's a delicious irony here.

and Palin a said "well maybe my job was kind of like a community organizer -- except I actually had RESPONSIBILITIES". The audience loved it! :grr:

19. I didn't hear Rudy's - only know he did it too because of posts I've read here. |
|
So I can't elaborate on what exactly he said. Good bet, though, that it was just as demeaning.

10. The ones who do useful things at least, yes. |

The ones who consider preaching and converting part of "community service", no.

It's one thing to trash Hollywood elites, "libruls"...but to trash people who are actually out there doing the world some good?

8. Where's McCain going to hold his photo ops? |
|
You know, the one where he walks through and looks all concerned and pats the locals on the head and says, "This is one happens when people take responsibility for their actions and don't rely on the government."
I have a feeling he's going to have a hard time getting invitations.

13. thom hartmann was saying this morning that the Obama campaign... |
|
... needs to get some ads out, nationally, in the next 24 hours about community organizing, showing a bunch of white folks (he added that people of color could be in them too, of course), because if they don't the McCain campaign is going to paint "community organizing" in such a way as to make it seem scary. He didn't say scary, exactly--he said black--but in the minds of McCain's base, that's the same thing.

I guess the Republican's threw down the gauntlet. Seems like they don't believe that organizers can get their respective neighborhoods to get out the vote.
