Does this part of Palin's speech make any sense at all?
"When a hurricane strikes in the Gulf of Mexico, this country should not be so dependent on imported oil that we are forced to draw from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve."

1. I was wondering that myself.
Hasn't Bush refused to do so repeatedly? That would seem to make the statement nonsensical.

2. If the refineries are down, they're down. They won't be refining any oil
regardless of whether it comes from the Gulf, overseas or the Strategic Oil Reserve!

7. It was a suspiciously specific statement.
The reference was apparently on the speechwriter's checklist and was obviously intentional.

Maybe she was foreshadowing an "October surprise" where Bush will tap the Strategic Reserve to lower gas prices just in time for the election.

3. And don't forget that Hugo Chavez offered Venezualan oil in the wake of Katrina.
And Dubya refused it.

4. Was this where the supposed teleprompter failed??
I heard that from a McCain campaign person this morning that the prompter failed and she went off script. I guess she failed at going off script as well. I felt that this statement in particular showed how way out of her league she really is.

9. Why is JIMMY CARTER'S Strategic Petroleum Reserve such a sacred thing to the republicans?
Shouldn't they be trying to dismantle it, privatize it, shut it down and erase it from existence?
