Folks, step back from the concern trolls and media babblers for a moment and smell the fresh air.

Outside the media bubble, Caribou Barbie is still going over like cold gruel. The religious whackjob base may love her, but everybody else is uniformly saying "What the fuck?" Her condescending, hateful speech last night didn't help either: it turned off more people than it impressed. She's still a dilettante from a state whose population is smaller than the city of Memphis, and she undermines every campaign angle that the Republicans have been pursuing for the last 8 months.

Obama has taken on some of the biggest political juggernauts in modern history and come out on top--he's not going to be baited into running against the ticket's number two. Biden knows how to take somebody down for the count, even a woman, without being nasty about it. And 60% of female voters see the Palin pick as exactly what it was: a cynical political ploy, a gamble made on the assumption that women would blindly vote for the first penis-free candidate they saw.

Last Friday, McCain doubled down on the hope that he could wildly upset the dynamics of the race. He's failed in that attempt.
