My CEO, an unwavering Hillary supporter, |
|
with whom I couldn't talk politics during the primary season, came into my office yesterday, shut the door, sat down, rolled her eyes, and launched into a long rant on Palin. We dished for at least an hour, sharing insights and conspiracy theories. She went nuts over the term "Broken Watergate."
She seems to be very much on board with Obama/Biden. Go figure! :eyes:

3. You are fortunate - my CEO came in and told me that he was "energized" |
|
Then when I asked him what was the substance of her speech - you know, what she's going to do - he launched into "well, Obama says what he's going to do but I don't believe it". I said, "No wonder you are energized, she's just like you! All talk and no substance!".
Luckily, we have a great relationship and I can get by with this. I think I might have made him think though, which is nice - he'll still vote GOP regardless.

I just mailed a packet to my hair stylist, a staunch "conservative" whose husband who recently completed a tour of duty in Saudi Arabia, on the veterans issues voting records of McCain, Obama and Biden. She may not be persuaded to vote for Obama, but she will have to somehow process this information.
IMO, the veterans issue is a real Achilles heel for the opposition -- maybe even a more emotional hot button than the economy. After all, national security, support the troops, and "country first", right?

8. I slammed my boss yesterday too... |
|
He keeps saying that he doesn't think Obama is ready to lead. Whatever that means.
He also bitches endlessly about Bush.
I said, "Who did you vote for in 2000?" "Bush..." "2004?" (Uncomfortable looking boss) "Bush"
"Then clearly your judgment about who is ready to lead doesn't mean crap, now doesn't it."
I got a sheepish look at that one.

7. I think she turned off A LOT of people (my mom, too!) |
|
I posted this on another thread last night, but I had a similar experience last night right after the speech with my mom. She has been a Republican for many years - Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush Jr., etc. However, she has been disappointed in the Republicans and Bush Administration the last couple of years and was not 100% sure she was going to support McCain this time. I talked to her early in the day yesterday and she was "excited" about Palin. She was practically giddy, excited to watch the speech and said to me "I like her, don't you?" "I can't wait to see her speech!". Blech.
Anyway, she called me immediately after the speech and was completely disgusted. She said that speech was the turning point for her. She was leaning toward McCain and was even excited about Palin and thought she was going to vote for them. Palin's speech completely turned her off. She said "there is NO WAY I am giving my vote to them now - that is not the attitude I want to support". She said "I have to say, I like Obama more and more and I believe I will be voting for Obama this year." At the very least, she will not vote at all - but I'm pretty confident my mom will vote Democrat this year - for the first time in 28 years.
