Kind of a petty question re: Palin
Does anyone know what her current childcare arrangements are? and what they have been in the past, especially since she assumed the governorship? I've heard all kinds of things... that during the campaign for governor she impulsively blurted out that her dh would leave his job and stay home with the kids (which he did for a few months, then grew tired of it and returned to work), that the kids are "farmed out" to various neighbors and family members, that the teenage dd is actually caring for the baby... It seems incredible to me that she wouldn't have a housekeeper or nanny, or at the very least have a babysitter. Just wondering...

As an aside, am I the only one who feels incredibly uncomfortable and gossip-y about stooping to these petty and intrusive levels? Now, don't get me wrong... I certainly think that, in light of the situation and of her hypocrisy these questions are warranted and legit. It just feels weird to be questioning another woman on these things.. a bit.

4. Obama's Mother in-law takes care of Sasha and Malia
that was an important condition in him running according to interviews

15. Exactly.
I remember that consistency of care for the girls was a huge issue for the Obamas... it was even cited as a deal breaker for both of them. Odd that no mention whatsoever has been made of care for the Palin kids... especially since they have a baby.

6. You would be correct -- per Ann(e?) Kilkenny, the AK woman
who's written a long letter about Palin's rise from City
Council to Mayor to Governor.

Kilkenny contends that Palin trying to characterize her-
self as an "everywoman" is ANOTHER LIE ... She's always
had help, since her family has been fairly well off for
quite some time.

7. I've seen no reports about Palin family having a nanny.
Some of the articles I've read said she was planning on bringing baby Trig to work with her.

21. Me neither.
And I suspect the "bringing the baby to work" was more for the cameras, than a legit childcare plan.

11. I know that people *assume* she has a nanny.
But i'm wondering if this assumption is actually correct. From the sounds of things, I actually wonder if she has neglected to make adequate arrangements for them. And that would fall right into line with my impression of her as narcissistic and oppressively ambitious... sorry to sound so mean.

9. I know I read somewhere that the governor's mansion came with a cook/chef.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 03:20 PM by Lars39
She eliminated the position. I'm the 5th of five, with dad working shift overtime and mom working shift with overtime. It takes a lot more effort and organization to keep everybody fed and wearing clean clothes for 6 or 7 people than it does for just a few. Who's riding herd on those kids is a legitimate question, imo.

16. I'm a single mom of 5 myself.
Who's minding my kids is a huge issue... HUGE! Its importance simply can't be overstated in my opinion. It just seems so odd to me that no one has ever mentioned who's caring for the Palin kids... especially since her running for office while having so many young children has often been cited as a concern. It seems like if they had decent arrangements they would have been talking about them ad nauseum... parading their "wonderful nanny" or "dearly beloved Aunt Susie" out for all to see. KWIM?

17. It may be petty, but I was wondering myself. Until she went to Anchorage

to live with her Aunt, Bristol Palin went to High School in Wasilla. That's where she met the infamous boyfriend.

But the governor's mansion is in Juneau (state capitol!) which is about 19 hours away from Wasilla, according to Google Maps.

So, maybe she "got rid of the governor's mansion chef" because no-one really lived there.

Enquiring minds want to know...

18. Doesn't it seem odd that they haven't volunteered this info?
I tend to think if they had adequate arrangements they would be trumpeting them all over the place.. maybe even having the nanny join them in some photo shoots etc.
