Attacking Palin: Why the Obama Campaign will not do it at this time
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 05:45 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
As long from the Obama campaign plays nice with Palin the press is in "good citizen" mode, wanting to dig and get scoops.

The moment the Obama campaign engages the media enters "fair and balanced" mode, feigning even-handedness and treating all arguments on both sides as equivalent.

The press is hostile, above all things, to being denied access. It is an affront to their perceived importance. The press is currently not in a Palin friendly mode. Some TV talking heads are, but they are not investigative journalists, they're talking heads. (Listen to TV carefully... it is 90% attractive people describing stories from wire services and major newspapers and magazines. Print does the work, TV takes the glory.)

I agree that there is no purpose in the Obama campaign engaging Palin (beyond low level surrogate attacks like Wasserman-Schultz) until they know what effect Palin has in the first place, and until the press is done digging at her themselves.

To quote David Mamet: "What you'd know if you'd ever spent a day in your life... you don't open your mouth until you know the shot."

(Even Joe Scarborough says he expects press blow-back from the McCain hidden-VP gambit. Let's see where it goes this weekend.)

2. Newspaper, magazines and a little network, not cable talking heads.
There are still people who want career-making scoops, partisan ideology aside.

6. So no names, and no TV channels even come to mind. Like I said- "what investigative journalists?"
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 05:55 PM by Dr Fate
They are so few and far between that we cant even name one, or point to mainstream source that swing voters are likely to access.

I think it is a mistake for us to count on media "journalists"- be they investigative or otherwise.

3. I said I would not give money until they got tough.
I was wrong. I just listened to Obama's speech in PA. They know exactly what they're doing, and I will not be holding my money from them. I think Americans are tired of the Reagan bullshit and bluster. They want to hear that a candidate is working on the issues that affect them. They want real change for the better.

4. Obama's strategy: let the repukes cook their own goose
Obama doesn't have to attack Moose Hockey; she's digging her own grave. The more low blows she attempts on the Obamas, the more those attacks will backfire.

5. I'd give $$$ to Move On for a series of 30 second ads
For example, an ad describing Sarah Palin's attendance at the meetings of the AIP, even addressing their 2008 convention and telling them to "keep up the good work", along with proof of her husbands long-time membership, and statements by Palin's number one mentor in politics who ran for the Alaskan governorship and his anti-American statements.

Another ad could describe her anti-woman and anti-gay agenda.

Another ad could describe her treachery and irresponsibility in running Wasilla into the ground, trying to get library books banned because she felt they blasphemous, the arbitrary firing of the police chief, and her support of the bridge to nowhere.

Heck, I'd be willing to contribute generously to create those ads. I'm not hearing about too many progressive organizations getting on the ball. Where are the TV ads?

7. Obama is playing it smart, McSAME is Obama's
rival not Palin. Obama is right on focusing continually on McSAME and not allowing himself to be diverted by Ms. Mooseburger.
