1. If there is a big rally tomorrow, which would not be unlikely,
then McCain backers will claim it is an affirmation of him and his speech tonight. That sword can cut both ways. If the market had to go down I would prefer to have seen it happen the day after McCain's speech.

5. Let's see what happens tomorrow before we get too gleeful.

On edit, I just heard this was a result of the anticipation of the August unemployment numbers issued tomorrow. What they really turn out to be will determine which way the market goes tomorrow.

4. market noise
The only political action that could have any kind of long-term impact on the DOW 30 would be a nuclear war.

6. Or maybe the "market" thinks that she blew the election
for McCain and now Obama wins. Isn't that the conventional wisdom here?

8. Lots of moves on Intrade also
Seems like someone is playing Obama to win some of the second tier red states. Montana moved 15 points toward Obama today and North Dakota moved 7. Missouri moved 8 toward Obama. There might be a recoil later but it was interesting to notice those moves. Nevada also shifted about 4 points, to Obama slight favorite instead of slight underdog.

BTW, Palin is down to 5% to be withdrawn as VP nominee. That was a silly 14% at one stage. There's also a new contract on Biden to be withdrawn, at 3%.
