There are barely any blacks. There are barely any latinos. There are no gays except in the media or working in Denver. There are a lot of old white guys and pretty young white women. A quarter of the delegate crowd have cowboy uniforms.

They make fun of "cosmopolitan" areas. That's a very broad term. I've been in very cosmopolitan cities and very cosmopolitan suburbs. I can't say I've ever been to a cosmopolitan rural area.

So ya, the Republican National Party is now trying to be the party of middle of nowhere America. Good luck with that strategy. DOW drops another 350 today and you're blabbering on about community organizers and cosmopolitan cities.

1. Reverse Elitism
Meaning you are somehow not fully "American" if you are educated, you like Starbucks coffee, live in the Northeast, the West Coast or Chicago, drive a Prius, listen to NPR and if you are not a fundamentalist Christian.

4. We get a lot of that around here
Where I live is about as rural as you can get. It's 25 miles to the nearest stop light and I can only see one other house from my window. What passes for culture is a wet tee shirt contest at the local redneck bar. Yet when some of our big ranchers want to enjoy an evening out or get a good meal they head for where? 125 miles down the road to the hated city of San Francisco that's where.

3. Those fools in the Texas delegation have been doing that for years
The fake cowboy outfits. At the 2000 convention the Texas delegation stood in prayer while the openly gay Rep. Jim Kolbe addressed the hall.

I got tired of being outvoted in election after election and I left that state 2 years ago.

5. Hey, I'm white, but progressive... and this campaign is really looking like a white power rally....
They're running away from the center, not trying to appeal. This convention is sick.
