AFFAIR CLAIM IS JUST A VICIOUS LIE SAYS PALIN

Sarah Palin

Friday September 5,2008
By Joanna Walters

Our family has the same ups and downs as any other, the same challenges and the same joys
Sarah Palin

American vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been accused of having an affair – just hours after delivering an electrifying debut speech to the Republican convention.

Palin, 44, poured scorn on critics who have pounced on a series of controversies to emerge since her surprise choice as John McCain’s running mate.

But US magazine the National Enquirer claimed on its front page yesterday that she once had an affair with one of her husband Todd’s business partners.

It also alleged that before her nomination was announced she tried to arrange a speedy marriage between her pregnant daughter, Bristol, 17, and the father-to-be, self-confessed “redneck” Levi Johnston, 18.

But the magazine stood by its story, pointing to its long-running pursuit of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards who eventually admitted an affair after strident denials.

2. We'll look bad pushing this without any evidence.
Enquire getting something right on Edwards once before doesn't give them a free pass to spread smears with no proof now. I'm sorry.

6. I doubt they would print it if they didn't have
rock solid proof because of the shit-storm they'll get from Palin and McCain.

36. After five kids, and breast-feeding? Do you really want to see that?
I could understand a loving husband appreciating every stretch mark and the loose belly muscles and the sagging baby-chewed breasts, because he loves her and their children they had together.

But, otherwise, YUCK! Please, keep your clothes ON!

7. I don't think that We have to look one way or the other
The Enquirer will do whatever it wants without consulting us (I know I have never been asked by them for advice). If they find something, they have a story, if they don't, then they don't have a story. Do I think they are great journalists... NO. Have they sometimes done somethings others have not... Well, Yes.

26. I'm sorry guys, it just seems too good to be true.
Believe me. If this is confirmed some day I'll be running through the streets with it.

I thought we on the left were the rational people that asked questions. I just need to see something more compelling before I buy into it.

11. Enquirer got sued big time a few years ago by Mary
Tyler Moore. She won a shit load of money. Ever since then they have been very, very careful about their info. If you start seeing something from NE, there is probably something to it. I didn't want to believe it about Edwards but I knew when NE got hold of it that they probably had a story that had legs. If they don't find anything then there won't be a story.

Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 07:16 PM by FVZA_Colonel
I am not saying that this shouldn't be looked into at all, but that we ought just let the Enquirer handle this.

For now, at least.

29. This story pushes itself.
Enquirer is gonna do what it's gotta do. Guess what? They don't publish anything unless they've got solid proof. They got sued enough to know better so if you see a ripple or smoke from NE there is probably fire.

22. While I'd love to see Palin fall flat on her face...
I would also like to point out that the Express is one of the UK's intensely unreliable, right-wing, generally crappy tabloids. I'm surprised they tool any time off from Who Killed Diana and the dreadful deeds of the eeevil immigrants to even not the existence of another country than England.

So what they say can never be relied on as evidence of anything.

27. The Express is the tabloid in this context
No where did Palin herself ever say the rumors were a "vicious lie". In fact, she has never personally answered questions on the matter. I'd trust the word of the NE over the Daily Express. The Daily Express is a staunch, right wing tabloid, which has lost numerous court battles itself, most recently for its coverage of the Madeleine McCann disappearance.
