So let's say that the tables had been turned. Let's say that, like the Rupuglicans, the Democrats had somehow ruined America. Had bankrupted our nation, had started an illegal war, had become so unpopular with America that only about 25% of the population actually supported our party's President.
Even in that most seemingly unlikely of situations: would you be so quick to switch parties?
And before you say that's not possible, remember that at one time, the Republican party used to be the fiscally conservative, small government one. Ronald Reagan fucked that up, of course, but most people like to think that Republicans are the small-government party.
A lot of people wonder why hardcore Republicans would never switch given the state of our nation. But I have to wonder... how many of us would jump the party ship if the situations were reversed? Imagine a Republican as loyal to his party as many of us are loyal to the Democratic one... is it so easy to abandon the one who has for so long represented your core values, even after the party's abandoned them?
Just a thought. And for the record... I blame the vodka for making me have it...
