Palin's Pastor: God Will Damn America
posted by Max Blumenthal on 09/05/2008 @ 9:11pm

On July 20, 2008, the pastor of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's home church, Larry Kroon, delivered a sermon called "Sin Is Personal To God." Kroon, the senior pastor of the non-denominational Wasilla Bible Church in Wasilla, Alaska, used the book of Zephaniah as his reference point for discussing "that great day of the Lord, when God will finally bring closure to human history... a day of wrath." According to Kroon, "all things and all people" are going to bear the brunt of God's "intense anger." "There's anger with God," he proclaimed. "He takes sin personal."

Kroon placed Zephaniah in a modern context, warning that the sinful habits of Americans would invite the wrath of God. "And if Zephaniah were here today," Kroon bellowed, "he'd be saying, ‘Listen, is gonna deal with all the inhabitants of the earth. He is gonna strike out His hand against, yes, Wasilla; and Alaska; and the United States of America. There's no exceptions here -- there's none. It's all.'"

While Kroon has cautioned his parishioners against the mass marketed End Times prophecies of Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye, he has nonetheless invoked doomsday scenarios that mirror those on the pages of Lindsey and LaHaye's bestselling tracts.

10. How many churches does Palin now attend? Does she still have a house in Wasilla?
The article of the OP describes her church in Wasilla. But I thought she lived in the capital Juneau now, as Governor. So far, her main church described in the media has been an Assembly of God affiliated place of worship called the Juneau Christian Center. It's supposedly a crazy fundie church where an anti-Semitic speaker delivered a sermon saying Jews deserved being terrorized. And to try to remove that controversial issue, Reverend Hagee is planning an even to Honor The State Of Israel in that church some time this month. The Republishits are anxious to be able to rebut the incident with the anti-Semitic sermon and point to the church hosting Hagee and his pro-Israel evening of sermons and whatever strange incantations that guy makes as a sign that they and Palin are pro-Israel.

27. The Obama's Crazy Minister Ads are already coming.
You can be sure of that.

But by all means, and once again, we should take the high road on this issue as well as ______ (insert all of the other incredibly damaging personal issues regarding Palin and McCain and their families friends and associates here). Americans will not be tricked once again by a steady barrage of smears lies distortions and negative personal attacks.

and only 2 people have a realistic chance to be president. One of them is John McCain. Perhaps god has already damned America.

21. I took out relevant sections of the transcript which clearly lay out the pastor's argument
"He has to be emphatic at this point; he has to get specific at this point, because the people of Jerusalem had the prevailing attitude—and it’s stated in Zephaniah—that ‘God won’t do anything to us, good or bad.’ And what Zephaniah says—‘Listen, He is going to remove everyone from the earth. He is gonna deal with all the inhabitants; so, as a result, understand He is going to deal with you, Jerusalem and Judah. There’s no exceptions here.’ And if Zephaniah were here today he’d be saying, ‘Listen, He is gonna deal with all the inhabitants of the earth. He is gonna strike out His hand against, yes, Wasilla; and Alaska; and the United States of America. There’s no exceptions here—there’s none. It’s all.’"

"That leads to another question, and that’s the question ‘why?’ And as we read through Zephaniah’s prophecy, the question is always there—why would God do such a thing? And the answer Zephaniah gives, in one word at one point, is very simply...sin, mankind’s rebellions against God."

"God could give them instructions about how to worship, about how to treat each other, how to treat their wives, how to speak of Him, how to speak the truth, how to deal with their nation, how to run their country; He could give them instruction about anything and everything, and they did their own thing."

Sin is saying, ‘I’m not going to listen to the voice of God.’ And there’s nothin’ more personal than sayin’ ‘I don’t want to hear You.’ Sin is saying ‘I want to do it my way;’ and there’s nothin’ more personal than saying ‘I don’t trust Your way.’ Sin is saying ‘I don’t have any confidence in You, God, to handle my situation, my circumstance, given what I’m dealing with. You are not competent enough and You do not know the situation well enough.’ And there is nothing more personal than saying that to God. And that’s what you say every time you sin. And there’s nothing more personal than saying ‘I really don’t have time for You.’

So if you don't listen to god, you are a sinner. If you think you know how to run your life on your own and run your own life, you are a sinner. And god will strike out against you. He will strike out against the US, as he struck out against Jerusalem.

God Damns America.
Sound familiar?

But God doesn't just damn America, God gives vengeance to America, for not paying attention to him. For not taking his instructions "about how to worship, about how to treat each other, how to treat their wives, how to speak of Him, how to speak the truth, how to deal with their nation, how to run their country".

22. Isn't Sarah Palin a Holy Roller?
What they used to call the Pentecostal Assembly of God, where worshippers roll across the floor and speak in tongues? I'm not knocking people who worship whatever they want but I think we need to know if her religion would affect how she governs, including her belief in the end times. Kennedy was scrutinized as to whether his Catholicism and obedience to the Pope of religious matters would affect his decisions as President. It seems like Palin's religion is not being closely examined.

23. This kind of preaching makes me LOL. God knew beforehand how everything would turn out.
Knows all that has been, all that is, all that will be. So what's he so pissed about? It would be like deliberately hitting my thumb with a hammer and then getting mad at the hammer because it hurts.

Yes, to poster above, Sarah Snarl's church does have members who speak in tongues.
