Partisanship appears to sway opinions on Palin
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26568866

"Republicans and Democrats have deeply contrasting first impressions of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, suggesting partisanship, not gender, is paramount in the initial public reviews.

Overall, Palin, the governor of Alaska and the first woman to run on a Republican presidential ticket, gets positive marks in a new ABC News national poll, despite broad skepticism that she has the necessary experience to serve as president. Most Americans approve of her selection, and six in 10 of those polled said she made the right call to join the contest."

and my favorite part -

"Half of all those polled view Palin favorably and 37 percent hold negative opinions. Men are somewhat more apt to view her favorably, but that is mainly because women are far more likely to be Democrats."
(snipped from story)

So SEE! It's you WOMEN who are sexist about this Palin woman... er, oh, wait. Did I read that right? MEN are more likely to embrace Palin? Wuhhh, what?! Well, that just shoots the McCain's arguments, pushed by that the LIBERAL (ha) media, that Gov. Palin is being treated in a sexist manner.

It's more like - WOMEN, as a majority, don't LIKE her politics! SIMPLE ENOUGH!

1. I think she's a great choice for McCain
(but probably not for the same reasons the Republicans think she's a great choice ;))

2. I could be wrong, but when all the media whoring is ...
trimmed off, I think this pick backfires in a pretty substancial way.

Look, the right wing lunatics were going to hail WHOEVER the VP pick was. They could have picked Moe the Bartender, and it would have been spun.

The right wing freak jobs are in, and the left wing sees this trainwreck for what it is - that cuts out the 40 percent on either margin.

The middle 20, IMO ... Those who are mostly right leaning/left hating, are going to break rightward, those who are the opposite break our way. That is the fat 10 percent cut off the "middle" leaving 10 percent.

IMO, the TRULY discerning voters have a LITANY of reasons to hate this pick - that she is, by any reasonable view point, unqualified, her extreme positions, her personal baggage.

And, IMO, while the right wing just does not get it, and the media will parrot their prescribed hockey mom meme, in my, admittedly male life experience, this lady is the kind of woman that woman don't like.

Sorry, just because the right wing/media is saying she is an everyday woman who woman can relate to does not make it - sorry, but Alaska is a WHOLE nother world.

3. a whole nother world, indeed.
in reading the comments from that Alaskan waitress that overheard Palin say 'sambo beat the bitch', and saying that's alaska for you, I hope more people will understand she's an extremist. sadly, many of the elderly in my area are for her because she's tough, etc. Disgusting ignorance, but I believe the youth vote and the middle class vote will override their ignorance on the subject.
