Nominee's ally moves to curb probe of Palin
By Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball | Newsweek Web Exclusive
Sep 5, 2008 | Updated: 9:36 p.m. ET Sep 5, 2008

Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called "October surprise" that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.

In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska's bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called "troopergate" investigation.

Coghill charged that the senator, Hollis French, had "politicized" the probe by making a number of public comments in recent days, including telling ABC News that Palin had a "credibility problem" and that the investigation into the firing of public safety commissioner Walter Monegan was "likely to be damaging to the administration" and could be an "October surprise." Wrote Coghill: "The investigation appears to be lacking in fairness, neutrality and due process."

4. They want to remove the dem on the panel because they want to be fair?
What is this the 9/11 report that let bush testify w/ Dick Cheney not under
oath and in secret so as to make sure things went smoothly .....

Or the SCOTUS stopping the vote count in Florida 2000 because the outcome
might be embarrassing to the plaintiff (Bush)

Or bush letting Scooter walk because he had suffered enough

God damn I hate these mother fuckers who wrap themselves in the flag,
God, and country but when push comes to shove they cheat and lie so
as to fix the outcome of what should be a fair process.

5. If this is no big deal, and the BIL so obviously a bad guy - why seek to curb probe??

I think early efforts to paint the BIL as bad guy, move on, nothing to see here, were not successful and thus MCCain needs to quelch investigation.
