I thought NC was one of his battleground states. No ads?

1. I am in the Charlotte market and see some of his ads. We live in SC, but our local
channels are out of Charlotte.

2. Obama's not going to win NC
The point is to make McCain have to spend money there, since that is money he cannot then spend in Ohio. If you are seeing tons of McCain ads, that's a good thing.

15. he may or may not win NC, but he will guarantee a Hagen win over Dole
The big turnout among African-Americans in NC voting 95-1 for the Dems will help Dems statewide and will knock off Dole, which overall would be a surprise pick-up, one of those needed to reach the magic 60. I think this will help us in senate races in Mississippi and Georgia as well.

8. He Might Not Win.
But he could.

26% of the vote was African-American in 2004. 59% Female.

Obama is currently polling at 91% among NC AA, and leading Mcpow by 3 on the female vote.

Putting it all together, with the white vote, he is around 52% right now. It's within reach. Kay Hagan is leading Dole right now, too.

I think NC will be Blue this time round.

10. I think he's going to win - even if it's by a squeak.
OP: I've seen a couple ads (good strong positive ones) and I'm not watching much TV lately.

5. Your profile says you live in Greenville.
I live east of G'ville but often watch both channels 7 & 9 and have seen lots of Obama commercials on tv. Most of them have been early in the morning between 6 - 8 a.m.(which is when I watch most). I do wish that the Obama campaign would reach out more to eastern NC though.

9. I agree. Because of Hanna, I've kept it on the Weather Channel and McCain's ads have been all over
it.

12. I think NC is going to be close. It cannot be written off.

No one knows how significant the AA turnout is going to be. I say if Obama makes 3 or 4 stops here (and not just in the Triangle or Triad) before November, it *could* make a difference.

Also, Michelle should come to Fayeteville/Ft. Bragg and talk to the military wives like she did in Virigina.

13. Nationally I'm seeing a ton of ads on The Weather Channel
for McCain. WTF is Obama not running ads on TWC right now too? It's perfect. All these hurricanes and their viewership spikes-it's the perfect opportunity and Obama is blowing it!

16. Especially considering where hurricanes hit.
Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia.. four states that are conceivably in-play (ok.. Georgia's a stretch) with high Weather Channel viewership during hurricane season, which happens to end in November.

Advertising on this channel makes perfect sense.

17. With all the Dole/Hagen, McCory/Purdue ads
I don't think it's a bad idea to hold off on the ads for a few weeks.
With the effort the campaign is putting into field offices and voter registrations the Obama team think they have a real shot at NC

18. McCain had to dump all of his primary money by the end of his convention
so he pretty much blitzed the country with ads.

He now has only $90 million or so to spend in the next sixty days, not including what the RNC will spend to help him.
