"Idiot's Guide to the Palin Pick". Not about her, about her selection - please read. |
|
I was just working around the house this morning trying to make sense of the past few weeks - but not focusing on what I am sure was the intended focus - on Sarah Palin, and even perhaps John McCain, themselves - but about the selection process itself. Here is what I came up with - does it make sense? And does it provide a guide for how to counteract the desired impact?
First, what do we know about the Neocon view of Government - shrink it down so that it can drown in a bathtub. To them, Government isn't about helping the people - it is about gathering and holding power to act out their paranoia and power lust. There is not a shred of religion in their collective souls, but they have learned how to corral the many in the US who are vulnerable to anything Jaysus. So, all that they need are figureheads to run the country - they run all of the backroom workings, and have puppets in charge to fire up the minions.
What better way to position a ticket than to play to these vulnerabilities - get a war hero (fulfills the fear factor, the need for many Americans to have a war horse protector), and a Jesus freak that can spout all of the right wing, holy roller smokescreen, but add a dash of mom and apple pie - and you have the perfect ticket for the neocon agenda.
So it really isn't about issues - it is never about issues for them. It isn't about effective government - they don't like government. It isn't about the economy, or the people - hell, the great divide forming is perfect for them - all they need IS the few with the big bucks.
That is now how I am seeing it. They selected candidates who will be scrutinized to death, all sorts of conspiracies to follow - but they know that it will charge up nearly enough. Then all they need to put the icing on the cake is a bit of vote flipping here and there, a bit of voter caging here and there (Obama is firing up those who will never vote republican, so you just ensure that they can't vote).
If that pessimistic and cynical view is indeed the playbook, what is the offense and defense to play against it so that we can get these dangerous, destructive and megalomaniac people out of power?
So to me following around Palin's scandals and McCain's houses are not where the game is.
thoughts?

2. Beyond exposing the lies and hypocrisy, and how it's DIFFERENT... |

and much more dangerous this time (Palin isn't just pandering, she is ONE of the Rapture-ready crazies), I don't know.
I don't think us (as opposed to Obama and Biden) being strategic and so focused on sticking with the issues and being cautious and sweeping obvious issues (i.e., racism) under the rug will help. Let's bring this boil full of racist, homophobic, sexist, ignorant hypocrites to the surface so it can be excised, once and for all.
Expose it for those who are, amazingly, detached from that reality and who have no idea what an extremist evangelical Christian is all about, to those who aren't aware that someone with real family values wouldn't throw their own adopted daughter under the Straight Talk Express to appeal to the same people who attacked her eight years ago.
I shall be reading others' suggestions. :)

3. Thanks for the reading. Good dialogue...as a relative unknown here, |
|
it can be a bit disappointing when thoughts don't get commented upon, but I understand how fast things run by...and that I have much more to learn (only got interested in politics when Bush stole the election in 00)
