WHAT IF the the decrease in violence was mostly due to the Sunni Awakening? |
|
Lately I have heard a few things that are being ignored by the media. Bush agrees to pull troops out of Iraq. Seems unbelievable. Then we hear that he is removing 8,000 troops from Iraq. Very small amount. Then I heard, I can't remember where, that the leaders of the Sunni Awakening have been getting themselves killed lately.
So seeing Palin talk about how John McCain has won the Iraq war, I couldn't help but think of the following...
What if the Sunni Awakening was working before the "surge" and Bush knew it....
The surge of troops enhanced security in Iraq while Iraqis themselves decided to step up security...
Then McCain claims that the surge he supported worked...
So then the members of the Sunni Awakening start getting killed off....
Figuring that violence is going to increase and will show that the surge isn't the cause of the decrease in violence, Bush needs to cover up the lie....
So, figures of he pulls out some troops he can blame the increase in violence in having pulled some troops out....
The result would be that Bush would say that McCain's surge worked and trying Obama's option caused the war to get worse...
Then when McCain is sworn in, he has the ability to escalate the war and move on to Iran by blaming the increase in violence on their involvement.

Having said that I have been watching those accounts of the awakening leaders being killed off and hoping against haope that the whole thing doesn't come apart. We are at a very delicate stage in this thing right now I think and it has the potential to actuially evolve into a working government or blow up in our faces. The killing of the awakening leaders worries me. We will see if they can keep a lid on it.
