3. I don't think she was fired.
At least, not according to the Boston Herald:

<snip>

WASILLA -- Back in 1996, when she first became mayor, Sarah Palin asked the city librarian if she would be all right with censoring library books should she be asked to do so.

According to news coverage at the time, the librarian said she would definitely not be all right with it. A few months later, the librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, got a letter from Palin telling her she was going to be fired. The censorship issue was not mentioned as a reason for the firing. The letter just said the new mayor felt Emmons didn’t fully support her and had to go.

Emmons had been city librarian for seven years and was well liked. After a wave of public support for her, Palin relented and let Emmons keep her job.

I'm glad the public backed the librarian up. This is simply one more piece of evidence to show that Palin is unqualified to be vice president, or president, of the U.S.. She does not respect the first amendment. She's corrupt.

4. Good for the people coming to her defense.
I didn't know Palin had even tried.

5. This book banning story lacks one essential fact
the titles of the books Palin objected to. So far, it's just books. The titles of those books would help give this story more color and reality. Did she object to them because she felt they had inappropriate language? Was it because of Palin's crazy religious notion that they were somehow blasphemous like a Harry Potter book?

It would be important to know which titles she wanted banned. That would gives us a unique look into Palin's mind and her values. My bet is that she wanted to ban books that the vast majority of Americans cherish and see no problem with.

6. Apparently, she has quite a reputation locally as a book-hater
Here's a local's "look into the future" if Palin's elected

I agree, I'd like to see follow-up on the op story too. Like everything-Palin, I'll bet it gets ickier with further deveopment.
