21. I was hoping it would be a little higher. |
|
I du'ed the poll and then looked around the site. They have some pretty interesting positions, no matter how far afield they might be from mine, including an interesting article on Wright. The more real evangelicals ( not hard-core fundies) I come to know - and the more I try to listen to people of faith - the more I am coming to realize that they are not as politically monolithic as a group as I used to believe. Point of reference: I am an agnostic and a recovering Catholic, but every time I get ready to go ballistic on Catholics ( as opposed to the Church's policies) a few names comes to mind: Dorothy Day, Archbishop Romero, The Berrigans, Helen Prejean. Same keeps happening with Evangelicals.

10. if the do, both will be toast. That's why religion died in Europe. When there's a political |
|
advantage to being a believer, you will get a lot of people in it just for the networking, and eventually, the religion whithers away and without the religion, the party loses it's base.
This is also what is happening in Iran right now, and would likely happen most places that elected fundamentalist Islamic governments.

26. theocracies implode. When the Puritans took over England, they lasted about a generation |
|
then people decided a king was better than a religious nut.
In countries with a state religion, the state persists, but the religion essentially died. That's why when you go into a European cathedral, you see more tourists than parishioners.
