Palin goes into hiding; media outlets call her out on eBay lie

Not Ready?

By: Tim F. September 6, 2008 at 8:55 am

About Sarah Palin hiding from the press in Alaska, the latest “spin” from camp McCain is pretty damning.

If she goes out and makes a mistake, that is something that (voters will) care about, and that’s something that will haunt for awhile, so I think this is a smart move.

This basically confirms the Democratic point that Sarah Palin can’t handle the national spotlight unless she’s reading off a script that someone else wrote. It’s incredible. When you’re a Republican there is always an interviewer out there willing to softball you through an awkward situation. If she can’t handle Chris Wallace at FOX News, no doubt drooling for the chance to bend over backwards and shove his head up its own ass for the good of the Party, then what sort of challenge is she ready to handle?

But. The guy is a campaign flack managing an embarrassment. You have to assume that he’s shading the truth to cover up something worse. Taking a wild guess, the answer most likely has to do with Palin’s problem with telling the truth. In her short time on the national stage Sarah Palin has lied about practically everything. She lied about opposing the Ketchikan bridge, she lied about selling a state plane on eBay and about making a profit on the sale, she lied about visiting Ireland (her plane refueled there), she lied about fighting lobbyists and pork (she set a record for both), she lied about Obama’s legislative accomplishments.

more

Media Outlets Call Out Palin On eBay Story
Both the Washington Post and CNN have caught on to Sarah Palin's claim that she put a state plane on eBay, and John McCain's claim that she made a profit off of it. In fact, the plane failed to sell on eBay at the state's desired price, and it was sold at a loss through a broker.

1. I bet this won't stop her
from still telling this stupid story. She seems so smug when she brags about herself. I really think she does stuff just for media attention

2. Why do republicons lie to America all the time?
Why do republicons HATE the truth?

Truth works for me.

6. Ever hear the story of the Scorpion and the Turtle...?

A turtle was happily swimming along a river when a scorpion hailed it from the shore.

"Dear friend turtle!" called the scorpion. "Please let me climb upon your back and swim me to the other side of the river!"

"No," replied the turtle, "for if I do, you shall sting me, and I shall die."

"Nonsense!" replied the scorpion. "If I kill you in the middle of the river, you shall sink, and I shall drown and die with you."

The turtle thought this over, and saw the truth of the scorpion's statement. He let it upon his back and began swimming towards the other side of the river. Halfway across, he felt a sharp pain in the back of his neck.

"Why have you stung me?!" cried the turtle as his body began to stiffen. "Now you shall die as well!"

"Because it is in my nature," replied the scorpion as the turtle sank beneath the waters.

24. OT, but I prefer the original story of the Yogi and the Scorpion
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 04:44 PM by Fozzledick
A yogi was meditating on the banks of the Ganges when he saw a scorpion float by trapped in the current and about to drown. Without a moments hesitation he reached out his hand and scooped out the scorpion to save it.

As soon as he was safely clear of the water, the scorpion stung the yogi's hand and jumped away.
The sting was not deadly, but it was extremely painful.

The surprised yogi asked, "Why did you sting me? Don't you understand I just saved your life?"

"Well yes" replied the scorpion, "but you see I am a scorpion, and it is my nature to sting",
as he scurried off into the jungle heading upstream.

A few minutes later the yogi saw the scorpion floating by again, and again he reached out and scooped it out, and again he was stung.

This time it was the scorpion who was surprised, and he asked "Why did you save me again? Don't you understand I would only sting you again?"

"Well yes", he replied, "but you see I am a yogi, and it is MY nature to selflessly help others."

challenges that would be part of her job if she ---god forbid a million times, pffhht pffhht -- ever actually got to be vp?

5. The "broker" was Rep. John L. Harris (R-Valdez), he sold
it to a buddy of his, Larry Reynolds. Apparently his wife, Janice Reynolds, donated $1,000 to Harris.
Harris is the Republican speaker of the Alaska House.

8. they will just complain about the "media" bias against their new star
facts don't matter if you can undermine the fact tellers and tell a compelling personal narrative (fiction). It's the republi-trashcan way!

14. But it's looking more and more hollow
Really, the Republicans are handling it worse than I ever imagined they could. At this point, I think there's about 50% odds they'll withdraw from the VP debate. Or even ALL debates. If they decide that the damage from being in the debates will be worse than the damage from skipping them, they'll skip them.

15. McCain did say she sold it for a profit on Ebay. He lied.
Or he doesn't know about the situation, in which case a.) she should have told him immediately to stop or b.) he should not be talking about it.

21. people don't LIST AS ACCOMPLISHMENTS putting things on ebay that don't sell.
that's not an accomplishment. that's a failure.

she touted it as an accomplishment.

if i were to say "i entered the boston marathon", you'd think i did more than merely fill out the paperwork and not show up for the actual race.

if i were to say "i went to harvard", you'd think something a bit more impressive than a stop at the 7-11 in harvard, illinois.

if i were to say "i know brooke shields", you'd think i meant that she knew me, too.

none of these statements would be "lies" if you're a mathmetician or a lawyer, but to ordinary people, they're all statements designed to make the listener think something that the speaker knows is false, which is commonly referred to as a LIE.

palin's statement is a LIE in that sense.

16. If Obama wants to go negative at the end, he can just do "Republicans Are Liars"
and it will be absolutely true. They've given us so much ammo it's ludicrous. In a couple weeks, even the right-leaning pundits will be baffled by the antics - the buffoonery - of the McCain campaign.
