Explanation please on Sarah Palin
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 03:59 PM by ...of J.Temperance
Sarah Palin's appeal is what exactly?

Now there's a poll where she's way out in front on the stupid question "who would you prefer to have a beer with?"

Is it men who are responding favorably in these polls about her? Is it because they think she's good looking and want to shag her?

Is THIS how dumbed down things have become, where the fact that the candidate holds extreme political views doesn't mean ANYTHING if said candidate is perceived to be good looking and shaggable?

As a straight female, I can't say what Sarah Palin's appeal is, as a straight female I can say that certain other females are beautiful, eg. I think Rita Hayworth was beautiful, I think Natalie Portman is beautiful.

Sarah Palin is, okay, but she's not this ABSOLUTELY STUNNING film star type that the media are portraying her to be.

Why would someone vote for Palin because they thought she was good looking and IGNORE the fact that she's a political extremist?

I mean, I think that Dan Quayle was GORGEOUS looking in 1988, but because he was GORGEOUS and very shaggable looking, doesn't mean that I would have voted for him.

I think Rick Perry is very good looking, but I wouldn't vote for him.

So why do we seem to have buffoons out there, who might disagree with Sarah Palin, but because they find her fanciable they are telling pollsters they'd vote for her?

I mean WTF gives here?

On Edit: Dammit spelling error

1. Its not that she's good lookin
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 04:06 PM by JFN1
because she is - she knows this, and uses it, and a small percentage of people will base their support on this alone. This has more value to her as ego gratification than political power.

The appeal to the "masses," however, operates as something more basic.

Sarah Palin is NEVER satisfied. This is the biggest thing one learns about her after listening to her for five minutes.

The best is never good enough, more than enough is never enough, and so on.

If you have someone who is never satisfied with anything, and they tell you they are working to make things better for you, on a visceral level, you want to buy into that, based in large part on the fact of them never being satisfied.

I don't know if I'm explaining it well - but this is my sense of things.

3. But Obama is saying that he'll work to make things better as well
So shouldn't that cancel out Palin's lip service?

6. In the long run, it does
Especially in difficult times, like we have now, people crave substance - and Sarah Palin is sorely lacking.

The MSM is loving this. The MSM is trying to feed the meme that Palin is a true contender, because it lines their pockets to do so.

Don't buy into the media/Republican hype - because that is all it is.

A year from now, Palin will be little more than a punchline - if she's remembered at all.

10. "Palin's lip service"

Sorry, but that works on so many levels. Like, "How did you get where you are today, Ms. Palin?" "Paying lip service."

Also explains a lot about the "lipstick" comments.

Oh, I am SO evil!

But I do agree that I can't see the attraction, either. Except for guys with "older librarian" fantasies.

17. If you don't think that it is all about Sarah
here is another anecdotal view. Look at her children's names, even there names are all about her:
Track - she is into sports
Piper - she is into flying
Bristol - she is into fishing (Bristol is from Bristol Bay, AK. were they fish in the summer
Trig - she is into guns (short for trigger maybe, but the middle name Paxson is named after one of her favorite places in AK)
Willow - Named after one of her favorite places in AK.

Anecdotal? Yes, but some what reviling. Unfortunately this what we have to go by since she is hiding from the country.

9. If all you saw was a picture, and you knew nothing about her
you wouldn't think she was a troglodyte. My guess is you would consider her to be an attractive middle aged woman. It is who she is, that uglies her up.

And I'm with you on Rita Hayworth!

18. Which is why the Obama campaign NEEDS to expose her as the extremist she is
It's pretty imperative that Palin is busted....as they say don't judge a book by the cover, underneath that mask of Palin's lurks a Right-Wing monster.

7. Follow The Money
She got the fundies off their dimes...literally and financially. This was a cynical move to get the Dobsonites on board...and get them writing checks, which they have.

It was also a media distraction...to take the pressure off Gramps whose inept campaigning was depressing whatever base the GOOP had left. The can't run on the issues...and how ironic that Gramps is attempting to run against his own party...thus Palin is a lightning rod within their own fracturing tent to try, vainly, to hold whatever "solidarity" is left.

I get a feeling Palin fatigue will be setting in soon...kinda like how people burned out on Paris and Brittany...she's a novelty at this point and the media will only play so far. It's a very cynical and desperate ploy to stop the bleeding in support for this crumbling party that sees an electoral map that is forcing them to defend on their turf. They need to distract from Obama and Biden's message and the issues.

13. Well
I'm hoping that this just IS the Fundies that are giving her support in these polls.

I think the Obama campaign has GOT to expose Palin as the extremist she is, the McCain camp obviously feel the need to hide Palin in case she gives the game away on her beliefs in public....the Obama campaign MUST expose her to daylight and hopefully put her on the spot and force her out of hiding.

20. Eagles Don't Fly WIth Turkeys...That's What The Blogs & Media Are For
The GOOP would love for Obama and Biden to shoot at her and not at Gramps...turn this election into an election for homecoming king and queen.

Many already are learning about her extremism. The other day I got an email circulating among Jewish groups pointing out her preacher's remarks and her association with Jews For Jesus...it's also spreading around Southern Florida.

Just think on this one...during Palin's "speech", the Obama campaign raised $10 million...130,000 first time donors vs. $1,000,000 for Gramps. The word is out about her trying to glam onto Hillary's legacy and there's a backlash.

This lady is a walking soap opera...and it's pulling resources from Camp Gramps to keep this ruse going...and it's gonna lead to burn out sooner rather than later. Obama doesn't need to pay any attention to her...there are plenty of surrogates out there who are doing that right now...just look at all the crap that's been coming out. This isn't 2000 or 2004...the landscape is changed, people are hurting and angry...this distraction could work if the stakes weren't so high.

I'm just hoping this move pisses off people to get them out on the streets...registering voters and making sure they get to the polls on election day. The rest will take care of itself.

Only a MINIMAL amount of them will decide they like Palin more because they think she's good looking.

The pastor vote, well....that's nearly as stupid as voting for someone because you think they're good looking.
