I, for one, refuse to praise mediocrity. |
|
Engaging with several Republicans and McCain supporters over the weekend I continue to be amazed at the willingness to not only settle for mediocrity, but to praise it and desire it. When in the world did excellence become something to mock? Why would anyone be ashamed of exceptional intelligence?
Yes, the person who graduated last in the class at med school is addressed as "Doctor," but I don't want him or her performing brain surgery on my kid. I don't want a pilot who crashed 50% of flight simulations while in training flying me to Boston next week. I don't want a proofreader who misses a quarter of my typos to submit my dissertation to the printer.
So why would I settle for, or for Pete's Sake prefer, mental mediocrity in the White House?
Baffles the mind!

10. You hear the same talk from corporate executives, too. |
|
The difference? They're playing make-believe and are absolutely aware of their own hypocrisy, yet can deliver it with a straight face. See: Don Draper on "Mad Men."
The difference? Executives are worried about their taxes, and they remember the Clinton years. Wal-Mart shoppers are far more worried about teh gay and teh god and teh gun. :-)

Damn you and your high-falutin' good grades and proper grammar. Standards?! We don't need no stinkin' standards!! :sarcasm:
I know. People want someone "just like me"; when most would admit they aren't qualified to be president. If you try to understand this logic you'll sprain something.

People want a candidate "just like them," without realizing that if the President were like the average American, then the average American would be President.
