Stunning. Obama on KO. Still, STILL can't say liar. If this is the gig... |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 07:12 PM by Neshanic
There are no chicken littles, there are just people with facts.
Right now, KO asks, him, almost begging him to call these poeple liars or what they say is a lie. Kieth is giving it up to him on a freaking plate. But no, no lies or liar.
If this is the Obama that is going into the last legs of the race with this, we are truly fucked.

Besides, the newest Obama ad "No Maverick" calls McCain/Palin on their "lies" (actually says it).
Biden also said the word "lies" today in Iowa, I believe. The attack dog role goes to the VP and other campaign surrogates.

It makes no sense to point that out - it would just make a million fingers point back at Obama. Then, one single thing that looks like a slight mis-speak on Obama's part, BAM!!! It would all be over.
So, no, he should not say it and he's doing fine. Thank you.

29. So that he can be attacked for calling names....and have more distraction..... |
|
He just put out an ad calling where they are called liars. Others can do it...he doesn't need to get into the name calling. It wouldn't help him, just make voters mad that he somehow "disrespected" his opponents.
I think it will come, but calling folks liars ain't exactly a new kind of politics.
It's a tightrope and he's walking it. Obama to some extent has to be what Jackie Robinson was to Baseball. Sad but true.
What I hate are those who criticize him for this, while worrying about how his being Black will affect the election. You can't have it both ways. You can't on the one hand acknowledge that his race is his only real weakness in this contest, and yet insist that he acts in a way that too many Americans will use as an excuse to stereotype him.

It doesn't work that way, and I'm glad, if others don't know it, that he does.
I do believe that he is smarter than a whole lot of folks as to the lay of the land.
He is fighting not only liars, but a lying media. He understands that this election is about us, not who he was badass enough to call a name. That kind of shit would turn off the moderates, and it isn't necessary. Others can call the liars what they are. He has to be a bit more diplomatic about it, and I understand why.

This was my sentiment at that point. --- just say NO. And Keith would have left it a that.
Senator Obama needs to start learning soundbites. He keeps on about how he trusts the American people, but he needs to start calling out McCain and Palin for their lies. Short and simple instead of running on. He never did give Keith a direct answer on the 'elitist' question, he went around it and started on about something else.
He has to do better than this on a one-on-one interview. We desperately need him to win this election for good of this nation.

Obama seemed pretty subdued. I've been reading all day about how he and Biden have been on fire at their rallies, so I was expecting some red, juicy, bloody meat covered in teethmarks. I think even Keith was disappointed--he kept setting him up to address the cornucopia of lies that is the McCain campaign, but no.
I know the people working on the campaign have access to polls and survey data and focus groups and so on, so I have to trust that, having gotten him to the nomination, they'll get him the rest of the way to the White House. So I'm not concern trolling, just wishing for the meat I'd expected.

70. Obama's being "polite". Admirable, but not accurate. They're LIARS, not simply not telling the truth. |
|
Liar implies distortion of a known truth.
Not telling the truth allows for the possiblility they are misguided becasue they may be unaware of the truth.
I'm sorry.
They're liars. People looks for a strong Commander in Chief, not a polite diplomat. He has got to call them on lies. Beleive they will pull everything out to win.
He needs to show backbone as well as graciousness, and civility.
I understand what he is doing, and respect it, but I think it wil lbe difficult to win with this strategy.
It relies on great trust of the MSM to reveal these lies as lies, and upon an ignorant voting base of people who only are informed by the MSM to get the real truth. I'm sick of watching our candidates lose because they're too nice to upset the apple cart, and call it like it is.

62. If a black man calls that "nice white woman" a "liar" |
|
he will never get the bigots to vote for him. A co-worker of mine today said she has decided to vote for McCain because Palin is "so nice". Three woman near me, and me, all screamed "NICE??" We told her how extreme Palin's views are and how unprepared for the job of president she is. The co-worker's response, "What has Obama done?". She admitted that she does not follow politics and was undecided but thought that Obama would raise taxes. She said she did not like McCain but now she thinks Palin is great. This woman needs information presented quietly and intelligently. If she sees Obama on TV saying that Palin is not telling the truth she may listen. If she sees him use the word "liar" she will turn off Obama for the next 8 weeks.
Obama knows what a black man can and cannot say to some white people. I think he is playing this smart.

75. "Not telling the truth" = simple fact about the statements someone has made. "/Lie/Liar" = implies |
|
a moral judgment about the person making the statements.
Like someone in another thread, we were never allowed to call anyone a "liar" in our house.
I think many people still recoil at hearing anyone called a liar, regardless how justified it is. Obama is smart not to go there. Just keep saying they're no telling the truth, and then pivot right back to his point - connecting Bush and McCain at the hip. Liar Liar Pants on Fire is a distraction.
