Obama's fundamental problem: He trusts the American Voter.
He chouldn't trust the voyer. They are very clearly politically illiterate. You have to make them feel good about the candidate and about whe the candoidate wants to take the country and you have to drag them into that understanding because fear trumps hope nine times out of ten.

1. I am beginning to wonder if he grasps
how many mouth breathing troglodytes there actually are in this country.

2. How else can he handle this? No other way imo. Sure, he can
attack McBush more, and I have no doubt he will, but what's he supposed to say otherwise?
He trusts the younger people who will hopefully come out in droves and haven't developed that racist gene that so many older people have, whether they admit it or not (and that includes my liberal father).

5. Start calling them liars
Tell people McCain is going to raise their taxes (which also happens to be true), start saturating the airwaves with negative attack ads and stop praising McCain for his service every time he talks about him on television.

In other words, get up in their grill. Get mean.

Sarah Palin's got earmarks of liar, say Barack Obama

Sen. Barack Obama campaigns at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday.

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama took his first swipe at freshly plucked GOP veep nominee Sarah Palin Saturday, casting her as a phony symbol of change who's willing to just "make stuff up."

"I know the governor of Alaska has been saying she's change, and that's great," Obama told about 800 people at the Wabash fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Ind. But referring to reports that Palin accepted Federal earmarks money for her state, he added, "But, you know, when you've been taking all these earmarks when it's convenient, and then suddenly you're the champion anti-earmark person, that's not change. Come on, I mean, words mean something - you can't just make stuff up."

12. I don't think subtle is enough
Low info voters don't follow nuanced approaches. They need to beaten over their thick heads with words like liar.

6. That's why I love him.
He's not cynical like most politicians. Or myself. And he's met more Americans than we have, so maybe he's right about that.

7. You are underestimating Barack Obama.
He worked as director of project Vote, and he saw as we did what happened in 2000.

Obama is also the Jackie Robinson of Politics, and has to approach things a bit differently than someone else would. I have faith that he will get it done. In the meantime, he is appealing to the electorate's better angels, but he isn't through yet. He has just begun to fight.

8. I agree completely
Instead of droning on about policies, he needs to cut to the chase with short, memorable statements.

Keith couldn't have made it more clear when he quoted what Truman said - How many times do you have to be hit on the head before you realize who's clobbering you.

Obama needs to take his head out of the classroom and into the street. Think political sign instead of class lecture.

25. I hope he uses "They must think you're stupid" fairly heavily from now on.
I think it's a good way to get even the ones who really are stupid think twice maybe.

11. I think the average American can be trusted.
I sure hope he doesn't trust the system though. I hope he doesn't trust the media, the voting machines, the whole process.

13. One of my favorite sayings of late is...
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 07:55 PM by timeforarevolution
"I'll believe in you when you are no longer able to believe in yourself."

I think that's what Obama is trying to convey. He probably genuinely means it; but, even if he didn't, he is showing respect for citizens rather than the Republicans who THINK THEY'RE STUPID.

That's the contrast he's providing.

edited saying for clarity :)
