Updated: Mayor Palin Charged Victims for Their Own Rape Kits

by Steven R
Mon Sep 08, 2008 at 06:03:21 PM PDT

It would appear that Sarah Palin has a problem with Rape. In addition to not supporting the availability of Abortion for victims of Rape, Mayor Sarah Palin, Maverick, Fiscal Conservative, also had citizens of Wasilla pick up the bill for their own forensics tests. Hat Tip Americablog.

The Frontiersman / May 23, 2000

Gov. Tony Knowles recently signed legislation protecting victims of sexual assault from being billed for tests to collect evidence of the crime, but one local police chief said the new law will further burden taxpayers.

While the Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies have covered the cost of exams, which cost between $300 to $1,200 apiece, the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests.

Wasilla
Police Chief Charlie Fannon does not agree with the new legislation, saying the law will require the city and communities to come up with more funds to cover the costs of the forensic exams.

Words don't adequately describe this offense.

<...>

Remember it was Mayor Palin who fired the previous chief when he attempted to:

A. Close bars in Wasilla at 2am instead of 5am due to drunk driving incidents
B. Reduce hand gun conceilment to protect his officers

Sarah's Chief Fannon then was:

  1. Pro- Drunk Driving
  2. Anti-Police safety
  3. Pro-Charging Rape Victims for their OWN TESTS!!!
This needs to get out into the media folks... I think this blog broke the story.

Update: Connection between Fallon and Palin, She hired him...

has one thing in common: money. Obtaining it, saving it, no matter what it takes. Add to that her religious nuttery and she is a composite of Bush and Cheney.

17. White women have moved in huge numbers to Palin/McCain
"White women have moved from 50-42 percent in Obama’s favor before the conventions to 53-41 percent for McCain now, a 20-point shift in the margin that’s one of the single biggest post-convention changes in voter preferences. The other, also to McCain’s advantage, is in the battleground Midwest, where he’s moved from a 19-point deficit to a 7-point edge."

One can only hope that a few of these white women will think twice after reading this important info. As a "white woman", I'm just a little embarrassed that so many others of my gender think she'd make a good president. I'm now calling it the "Palin/McCain" ticket, because in reality, that IS what it is!

31. I heard it on NBC News tonight and went to Google to check
From http://www.politico.com/

About those sought-after white women

This is easily the best post-convention data point yet for Team McCain: According to an ABC/Washington Post poll out tomorrow, McCain now leads Obama 53-41 among white women.

It's a key demographic, and one in which McCain had been under performing in polls as compared to what Bush's margin against Kerry was in the same bloc.

Before the convention, Obama had been up 50-42 among white women, according to ABC/Washington Post

18. Correct me if I'm wrong: a rape kit has NO medical or therapeutic upshot for the victim
It is purely and simply an investigative tool.

If this is true, the consequences are pretty despicable. essentially, the town of Wasilla had a policy in place that de-incentivized women from pursuing criminal investigation and charges against their rapists. Coupled with Palin's opposition to abortion in cases of rape and incest, this is a damning portrait of the most retrograde anti-feminism you can imagine. It's shocking.

23. I posted this at another board and the women there are furious. Another great back up point.
Did the city make the victims of other crimes pay for their evidence gathering?

If not, it seems that victims of rape were treated as second class citizens.

30. How many fucking rapes are there in Wasilla that a $1000 rape kit would be a burdensome cost???
It's the most ridiculous fucking thing I've ever heard. Are there 300 rapes a year? Because that would still only be $300,000, and apparently Palin brought in $27 million for her pet projects. She couldn't get an earmark for rape kits?
