2. umm he doesn't get a cabinet til he's president.
It took a long time for Bill Clinton to get a cabinet AFTER he won the election. Obama will have a few months to figure this out. Right now he has to focus on trying to get elected.

6. That would be illegal, 18 USC 599
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 10:56 PM by jberryhill

"Whoever, being a candidate, directly or indirectly promises or pledges the appointment, or the use of his influence or support for the appointment of any person to any public or private position or employment, for the purpose of procuring support in his candidacy shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."

So, your question is "When is Obama going to commit a felony?"

Uh, not anytime soon.

Edit: here's a link to the statute:

10. after he gets elected, like most every other president
Naming cabinet members beforehand would be stupid thing to do on multiple levels.

First, it would feed the repub claim that he's being presumptuous, not even waiting for the voters to act before declaring himself president. It may seem like a silly argument, but it gained some traction before and it would again.

Second, it would take the focus off Palin and put it on those people that Obama named. In case you don't remember, problems with the vetting of cabinet members isn't exactly unheard of. The press will be all over those named and will be digging for all their worth. If they find one thing on any of them, it will be hung on Obama like a lead weight.

Fortunately, Obama and his team are (a) smarter than that and (b) not as desparate as some DUers seem to think that they are.
