Republicans, Myth and Power.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 11:46 PM by pinto
The Republican party, at least since the Reagan era, has become skilled at one thing. Myth-making.

It has been their primary route to power, from the State to the Federal levels. Wrapped in layers of spin, half-truths, and always some core symbol - a flag lapel pin, made meaningless in its politicization, or worse - a medal of honor, made a mock of in its prostitution to ideologues.

Simplistic 'God, guns and gays' rhetoric has worked well for them. They've made terror a political tool. They've taken wedge politics global, at our risk and our great expense. Myth may work when rooted in some basis of fact, but myth without substance is dangerous.

Theirs has been myth without a passing nod to reality.

Their record is dismal. Incompetence is a fact of federal life across all departments. The Katrina non-response wasn't an anomaly, it was the norm. A crushing deficit is no myth, it's the reality of Republican policies. Bankruptcy is real, trickle down economics is make believe.

That's the crux of it.
