Hold on to your hearts ...(photos).....
Barack in Farmington Hills today...

Great caption that went with the pic...

US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama holds a young boy after speaking during a townhall discussion in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Obama ripped into John McCain and Sarah Palin as never before, accusing his Republican White House foes of "shameless" dishonesty with their claim to be "mavericks" ready to shake up Washington.

... he looks like he's thinking "man, I'd love a son right about now!" :)

ETA: I have not left this thread for the last 10 minutes because I cannot take my eyes off of that photo. The look on his face and the joy in that child's eyes.... good grief... the tears are flowing....

"I wish my father had held me like this when I was little."

And you may be right. Only Barrack knows what was going through his head at that moment. But whatever it was, it made for one HELL of a photo....

136. Can't help but agree,
It is a beautiful photo. Everytime I see Obama with a child, I see something that I don't see with most other politicians. He is really a loving person that cares about the future of this country and how that future will affect these children.

God have mercy on us and let this man become president.

In a sense, it's the same thought ... but I see Barack with a look of firm resolve. It's an iconic moment and Saul Loeb deserves kudos.

182. I agree it is a look of resolve.
It is a great picture anyway you look at it. Wish I could just follow him around and soak in his calmness. I feel like I need it these days, but then again maybe things aren't as calm as they seem while he is battling the neo-cons. Anyway, my chaotic life would probably cause chaos in his world instead of his calmness coming to me. ;)

12. It's more than that... it's a benediction...
this is a man who feels in his soul something of this young human being he is holding, almost as if it is a younger version of himself ... and passing on the "it's OK" and I've got you-ness of the moment. The second photo in particular should be Pulitzer Prize material. It's a once in a lifetime shot that reveals the character of all three individuals: boy=joy and safety; Hero = I have you safely Dad taking picture=jubiliation and satisfaction (that he landed this moment for his son. But the core is the man at the center, who took a moment out of his own incredible manic journey to really have a moment with a stranger, or i should say, a younger version of himself as a stranger.

My daughters tried all these things and got bored.

Sorry, that's just a fact, most little girls don't like to play team sports.

Little boys are more into it, that's a sad fact.

I still love my daughters and I sat at the gym watching them do cartwheels and stuff. Trying not to look too bored.

Sorry, it's a sad fact, all dads of daughters only secretly or openly want a boy.

31. The look on that little boy's face is priceless: pure adoration
and "I can grow up to be like you one day!" I am reminded of a line from Schlesinger's bio of RFK: "Little Mexican girls don't come up to you and hug you unless you are real." Not verbatim. but it certainly captures the rich and genuine nature of Bob's humanity and connectedness. Barack has the same gift - that of reality and genuineness.

35. Simply beautiful. Obama is taking in that hug just as much as he is giving it.
Children, when they are happy children, can show their feelings with such joy and complete unself-consciousness.

And that's father's grin is 1000 watts bright!

37. Now that is "Family Values" ~ what a thrill for the little boy
the father and our next President!

My other fsvorite is the picture of the little boy looking up at Obama and the lighting is dark around them.

The little boy is dressed in a white shirt.

It seems to me that Obama hugs children the way that he wished his father had hugged him..

I bet Barack is thinking what it would be like to have a boy. My husband and I have two girls, 3 and 4 and he is very good with them but on occasion I wonder how he would do with a boy. Very very cute.

She made up her mind during the primaries -- without any prompting from me -- that she was an Obama supporter. At 8 years old, she's not exactly familiar with the issues, but her instincts told her that Obama seems like a nice man.

72. Okay, it brought a tear to my eye too. But I see something more.
I think Obama sees the obligations, duties and responsibilities that the world expects of him.

If I were Barack, and understood the degree to which the future of the world, (epitomized by that boy) depends on Obama's success, I don't know if I could cope.

This is no game.

It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.

He looks exactly the same in person as he does on TV. He had such a calm demeanor around him. Tremendous gravitas as well. He understands how deadly serious this election is. You could hear a pin drop as he talked. The best part was when he defended the Constitution during the Q & A. It was completely unscripted and straight from the heart.

Everyone should see him in person. He is so genuine and yes, calm. No drama Obama descibes him perfectly. He is not perfect, but his imperfections are easily overlooked because of his good qualities. Can't help but want this man to be president. Wanted it four years ago and still want it today.

And the picture is beautiful and inspirational. "Hope" should be its title.

144. Obama HAS to win
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 06:36 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
When I see this little boy's face, and think of some of the faces in the crowd, during and after Obama's convention speech... an elderly man hanging his head, weeping... a young man listening intently, with an expression of such hope in his eyes and face... I knew then, I wanted Obama to win more than anything. For them, and for all of us. The alternative would be heartbreaking (on edit
My first thought when I saw the expression on Barak Obama's face in pic#2 was that he was thinking the same thing).

146. Awww, what a beautiful photo.
You can tell just by looking at the photo what a genuine, caring human being Barack is. This little boy's future is what this election is all about.
